I finally got around to repairing & cleaning the GE 3-5286-A that I received in a trade from Chris last spring!
Thought I would take a shot of all three of my General Electrics while I had them out for a compare...

I have to admit, they all are sweet sounding boxes.
The mini mono 3-5280-A, with it's separate bass, treble, and loudness controls is easily my best sounding mini. The 3-5286-A is among my better sounding midsize boxes, while my Blockbuster (3-5289-A) has a thick, bass-heavy sound that puts it in the heavy-hitter category with bigger boxes like the Tele Studio & the M-90 ( all with the bass turned all the way up.) In fact, if I had to choose, I would take the bass from the Blockbuster OVER the M-90 and right behind the Tele Studio in head to head comparisons.
You gotta love the touches that are available only on a GE, like the green tinted tape door glass & tape wheel markings, not to mention the General Electric logo inscribed on the glass.
In closing, I would just have to remark that these boxes, with their sound & build quality, really don't take a back seat to any brand in head to head competition. You could do worse than to add a couple GE's to your collection. They are moderately priced compared to most other brands ( a mini mono 3-5280-A went for $15.00 this weekend on the Bay,) and come up rather frequently.
Easy to work on, but heavier than you would think. Think about a GE. I know I'm glad I did.
