Hey guys finally scored my first JVC box.....the RC-838JWII  I know it's not the Holy one but I really like this model by Victor and been wanting to have one ever since I saw it the first time  Everything is complete, no missing parts and surprise..surprise....the cassette player works :w00t: The only flaw I found was the stereo light is not turning on so I could not hear the full stereo effect when listening on FM plus the right VU meter is not working. Other than that, the usual wear and tear from age. I also took a pic of the internal components as I have to blow all the dust inside and deoxit everything :-D

Enjoy!!!

You really can't go far wrong with any JVC and that is definitely one of their best.

Great buy, congrats.
Thanks. I'm also waiting for my repro black straps from Joe (blu_fuz) to complete my 838

Very nice, the green reel cassette sets it off well :-)
Thanks. I am also thinking of changing the tuner lamp to green leds to match and compliment all the green color

Snap!...me too! When I saw how easy it would be to do this occurred to me too, if I'd had a green led I would've done it there and then. I think it would look great :-)

That's a great first JVC box! It does look very fresh too! Also thanks for the inside look! Always like to see how a box looks from the inside :)

Thanks guys :-) By the way, what is the purpose of the piece of cardboard with the wire connected to it on the back cover/grill? I want to wash the cover to clean it but I'm afraid it might affect the performance or something to the radio as a whole if it gets wet. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

The cardboard piece with the wire connected to earth is for shielding. You can try to take it away in order to wash the back plate and place it back when you finished. Better not make it wet, because the cardboard doesn't like moist.
Leaving it out might influence the performance and introduce interference hums and so on.

Yep, that's a sweet 838 alright!

These are great radios and super heavy. Yep, you're going to be a strap!
Thanks Chris. You meant "Yep, you're going to need a strap" :-D
