It's my birthday next week and so my sister bought me a nice box! It was local to her and was a bit of an ebay bargain as it was missing its battery cover and the tuner dial had a big crack in it. She brought it up north just before I went on my hols so it's only in the last few days I've had chance to have a proper go at it.

John (beosystem) brought me a new battery cover, wrong colour but a perfect fit... Thanks John!

Cleaned and serviced it as it sounded like crap...sounds very respectable now, way better than any other Hitachi I've heard. Deck still isn't working but hey ho it's got a proper line in so no bother. Cut and fitted a new tuner window, polished the heck out of it and here it is

Oh and and I stuck in some pics of a nice mic I got a while ago too :-)

I also have the same box in excellent cosmetic condition. My deck works off and on and gets stuck at pause. I had a hard time getting both VUs working. It was one or the other. Finally after a lot of switch cleaning it works decent. Despite having a 3 way speaker system it is not as great as 8600RM in sound quality. I could be wrong. It is a beautiful looking system! Very tall and thin box.

It is one nice box to have!

She is a great sister...I've sent her off picking up boxes from all over! I repay the favour by doing jobs on her house when I visit as she's a singleton. But this one she collected and paid for :-)

And I agree this is a very good looking box, love how tall it is, and the colour is pretty cool, bit different from the usual black or silver. Really pleasantly surprised how good the sound is too :-) Both vu's work on mine, in fact everything does bar the stupid deck lol

Good old sis, great present.

The 8600 is a great looking box, i Love the VU's and the front mounted controls means less dust getting in them.

Humpy burpday you old fart! 46 eh, that means you're catching up and now I'm only three years older than you. Until December, when I'll be hitting the big 5-0. :-/

That Hitachi looks great and I'm chuffed to bits that the battery lid fits, primarily because this revelation challenges my earlier belief that the 8080 was completely useless. :lol:

I've never heard one of these. Great looking box and I love the tweeters!

Battery door cover color means nothing as long as the batteries on in the box and off the floor! Nice Team Effort! :thumbsup:

Ha ha it did actually cross my mind because I noticed there is a nice little space for the gear lol and room in the tuner dial and maybe under the vu's without any casing modification...we'll see lol :-)
