help... just wondering if anyone has a had this problem before. with theirs...when i turn the balance knob to the right...it sounds lower and muffled like no highs!! ....you compare both sides you can clearly hear the difference in clarity on the left side from the muffled right....now when you center it you dont notice the muffled sound because it blends in with the clear left.....i remember some time ago it sounded fine....and both sides normal and loud....but had crackling....so i sprayed it with detoxit DN5 and the crackling sound went away....but then i notice this or maybe it was there already for some time and never noticed this problem....i wonder if it got over saturated with the deoxit....or is it something else maybe the right needs replacing inside or something inside??...i put my ear next to the right tweeter and i hear it so its not that...but then i lower my ear to hear the mids and it sounds muffled compared to the left nice and clear...what gives? maybe more detoxit in all knobs ...i tried that a little bit but no luck....what could it be.... :hmmm:

not sure I can help, but just wondering. Is this the same through all sources? FM? Tape? Line-in? Is it the same with headphone? If it's clear with headphone, then maybe something up with the speakers themselves? Not a techie, but read enough on these forums to "fiddle" around :-D

Is the tweeter working on that side? If yes but not well, maybe check the high pass capacitor in case it's worn. Also, could be bad components in tonal circuit for that channel. Also check to make sure everything is cleaned. Deoxit works good to clear up issues temporarily but old contaminants frequently remain inside the controls. The only way to truly clean controls for a long lasting repair is to disassemble and clean, then lubricate them but lots of trouble and there is always a risk of damage.

yes the tweeter i can hear if i turn all the bass knobs down including the super woofer knobs and turn the balance knob to the the side im listening to but that mid speaker only works with bass no highs coming out of it just like a flat mono sound not clear like the other side...now if i may add... when i turn all the bass knobs down like i mentioned earlier that mid has no sound at all.......but like i said that tweeter works but doesnt sound too loud....i thought that my self maybe its that pass capacitor...i have take it apart limb from limb...but i wouldn't know where the tonal circuity area would be....would have to look more into that with the schematics of it...but thanks for your suggestions....yes it works perfect through headphones.....but the same problem happens through line in...

I picked up a 777 off craigslist a while back and had a similar sounding issue. In my case, the previous owner had messed around a lot inside the box. He had rewired the external speaker to be on the circuit created for the center woofers. Its a shot in the dark, but if you are turning down the woofer control and its killing that external speaker you may want to check.

Turning the bass down should not kill that speaker. That's because while the low hz's are dampened, the highs still go to that side and that filter merely blocks low hz signals to the tweeter. The low/mid driver still gets all the mid-high signals so you should still hear everything, although a bit brighter. Something is definitely amiss.

Is it muffled on the radio??? it could be something as simple as cleaning the heads... if its the tape deck were talking about...

yeah its muffled when playing radio as well and tape....when i mean muffled its that no highs are coming out of that mid range....just bass or so it seems i see it thump when i raise the volume....the radio was never opened first time i opened it .....i dont think anyone ever messed with it before...im guessing its age or something dirty or needs replacing...i was thinking perhaps the treble area for that channel...or could it be the speaker itself ??..maybe a coil is loose? :hmmm:

Im not sure but can you plug external speakers into the 777???? if so try that... also try her on headphones... if she sounds fine on headphones it could be your speakers... or she may need reacapping on the preamp section... good luck man...
