Mini meet in the Peoples Republic of Yorkshire

I put up a post asking if anyone had an Hitachi TRK 8600 battery cover...well John/beosystem came to the rescue with an alternative that fits from an 8080 which was great news.

Today he hand delivered it to my door and we had a very pleasant afternoon talking crap about boxes lol. Tried a few different boxes in the boom room and John even brought a few boxes that I hadn't heard before so I could try them out.

Well we managed to blather on for a full five hours, which is suppose is no great surprise, before I sent him on his way with a selection of my recent tape haul.

All I can say is that he's as nice a fella in person as he is on the forum...thanks mate!

Yeh it's great to chat on the forum but it's even better to chat in person, especially surrounded by boomboxes

Sadly, that's quite true, I fell from the ugly tree as a small child and hit my face on every branch on the way down.

I just got home about an hour ago - having stopped for Diesel at Middleton Tyas services and again to stretch my legs in Newcastle - and once home, I managed to persuade my neighbour to help me get the boxes out of the car.
I enjoyed my tour of the legendary Boom Room and the comparison test carried out between various boxes, with Blue Monday being the track chosen to allow the boxes to show how much bass they could make before distress set in.

I saw spotless examples of many very fine boxes, a Walkman disguised as a Coke tin, two M70s standing side by side and heard a very special specimen of the Sharp GF-9000 that the man/legend Northerner had rebuilt from a shattered wreck into something that would grace the shelves of even the most particular collector. What an absolutely beautiful box that one is, but then so are all of the ones on display. Oh, and I got to touch the crazy three-deck Schneider. It's every bit as mad in real life as it looks in pictures.
Then, a little later, we listened to some of the Musicassettes from Simon's recently acquired crate full, made more bass and drank good, strong tea (from the finest tea mines in the People's Republic ) throughout the afternoon.

Simon's beautiful canine companion, Sam, was present for much of the time and what a great character he is too. That doggy is just so cool!

I really enjoyed myself down at the Northerner's place today, that amazing room is just so well laid out and has a fantastic atmosphere thanks to great colours, great furniture, great boxes and even greater company.

Thanks so much for putting up with me, Si, you have a beautiful home and it was a pleasure to be allowed to come into it and make noise with boomboxes. It was also a pleasure to meet a forum legend in real life.

Great stuff! We need pics though - surely Simon had a paper bag lying around somewhere for Johns' visits where photos may be taken.

Thanks for your very kind words John...it was indeed a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Unfortunately we took no pics as the only participant photogenic enough not to scare people was the dog. Who incidentally is usually really wary of strangers coming to the house but took to John immediately...I think John may have some strange and hidden 'dog whisperer' powers
