Welcome ... I don't think it was a top model. I have the CRS4000 which seems to be a much better model

Thanks for the pic.. What makes you believe the CRS 4000 is better than the CRS-2200? Judging from the pics I have seen it looks like the 2200 might be a slightly newer updated model of the 4000 but that is just my observation.. I will know more when I receive my 2200..

I love the CRS-2200. In fact, I love this model so much I think I have like 4 of them..... can't get enough. To me, it's perfectly fine if nobody knows about it. The CRS-4000 is TOTL on their 1-piece boxes. But I just love the combination of size, looks, energy thrift, sound quality of the CRS-2200. And no, the 2200 is not a later model of the 4000 -- they coexisted at the same time (see last pic).

Not known for earth pounding power -- Marantz focuses more on sound quality than loudness. Far as I'm concerned, it's the best kept secret (shhhh....). No matter, it's so rare it's not like we are going to see a ton of them tomorrow.

Here is one that resides in a perfectly built to suit cuddy hole in my bathroom. It's one of the boxes I use to keep my ears satisfied while I take extended magazine.... er bathroom breaks. :w00t:

Thanks for info :superduper: that's what I figured the 4000 was top line model. I've never seen or heard any other Marantz models but the 3 pce models look awesome too  would love to hear some of there other models

Hi Vintageguy65, your Marantz Superscope CRS-2200 looks awesome. Truly a rare bird. I bet it's well built too! I couldn't help but notice the similarity of the top panel, twin VU meters, tuner knob placement and handle to the Hitachi TRK-8080:

Post up some pics when she arrives,

James.... :-)

Thanks to all for the additional info on the 2200. @Superduper.. Can you tell me and others who might be interested what the differences are in features and sound between the 2200 and the 4000 and why the 2200 is your favorite? Are all your 2200 in excellent shape and working or are some parts units?

I know my 4000 has a line in and ext speaker out .... Doesn't look like 2200 has that :hmmm: oh and mine has tape normal/Cr02/metal and loudness switch

The 2200 has line in/out and has a matrix sound switch. Not sure if that's is the same as a loudness switch or not? It doesn't appear that the 2200 can play cr02 or metal tapes..

Loudness is separate from matrix. 4000 has both. I don't see switch for line in that's why I thought it may not have it :hmmm:

The 2200 has both meters.. Bill any power or tuner specs on your 4000? I suspect the 4000 has larger woofers and a bit more power..

No I'm talking about a tuner and meter light. That lights it up. As for specks it only uses 15 watts to power up. But like Superduper said Marantz was all about sound quality not power. It does use 12v dc ;-) I'm thinking output maybe 2-4 watts/channel

The 2200 has both a battery and tune meter with a light switch that would illuminate the meters I assume if that is what you are referring to..
