M70 bass and treble subtle?

OK, now I see why everyone loves these boxes! Very nice indeed...awesome sound.

My question is I can't tell much difference when you adjust either the bass or the treble. I have cleaned the hell out of the sliders but should I have a really noticeable difference when they are adjusted or is it very subtle? It is not as drastic a difference as other boxes i have. Wondering if maybe my sliders have the dreaded fail or fault. Friggin nice sounding box never the less!

...as someone who loves the M70 I can tell you something is definitely wrong with yours. You should have a drastic difference when adjusted from 0-10 on the bass and treble. The sliders are notorious for going bad. You may want to enlist the help of Superduper...he has rebuilt and replaced them and can tell you all about it. But you are right...they sound great and get VERY loud. It should have super crisp highs and hard bass when both are turned all the way up. On mine I usually keep the bass at 75% and the treble at 100% cause this box has a very strong amps....

on all the examples i have heard --
the bass slider and the loudness switch --are not very effective
at low to medium volumes --
but --you should notice a major difference
when its cranked loud.

--other than that fault --its sort of 'the perfect box'

you should notice some bass responce with out the loudness switch if you cleaned it more than likely you have a bad slider i replace a volume and bass slider off of my m70 and it sounds great now

both the treble and bass on mine seem to add a fair bit of boost to both frequencies.

I've rebuilt so many of these JVC sliders that to me, they are all crapola. ALPS is the component manufacturer to blame. Sometimes both sides are gone. Sometimes, just 1 side is gone and you won't notice until you seperate the channels. I had forgotten about this until just recently when I had to do it again. AND on some of the JVC's like the RC-838, a dead slider means a totally dead channel -- not just non-responsive bass/treble boost like on the M70.

Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate the input. I think the sliders must defective. I tried to isolate by channel but still nonresponsive. I remember a thread somewhere maybe on s2go about rebuilding them, will try to find it.

Otherwise have to put out the feelers for some replacements.

I thought working on my CS660 was tough. The M70 is a pretty big PIA!

But obviously we all seem to agree well worth it
