i'm not a collector of boomboxes, though i have owned a yamaha PC-8 that got trashed by a skateboard at a ramp and a lasonic TRC-935 that i "duck rock" customized that got stolen. i am still nostalgic about them, and have looked for teeshirts with them in the past, but the images are always low quality one color silk screened images and toy boomboxes at that.

i would like to create a teeshirt line featuring REAL boomboxes and print them in full color digitally. i've looked for artwork at stock photo sites, and they're clueless about lasonic, helix, conion and JVC RC-M90 etc.

if anyone's interested in supplying high quality pics of classic boomboxes, i could really use the artwork, and would have a tee in the size and color of your choice printed in exchange for art i can use when i start printing myself some time next year.

my primary focus in teeshirts is bicycling, but knowing just how much 99% of boombox teeshirts suck, and wanting some myself, i'd like to offer collectors tees with the boxes that actually matter and in glorious, sometimes tacky, full color

hey... somebody bought these!

for what it's worth, any of you that are capable of taking a high quality well lit pic of your favorite classics, you should submit pics of them to the biggest stock photo sites and start getting paid! there are NO pics of grail boxes at any site i looked at. SOMEONE should be fixing that.

Sounds like a great idea. I hope this takes off for the you. I don't have any high quality pics of mine. But others might.

i'm SURE that with ALL of the collectors here with deep collections (one guy had about a dozen lasonics, including color variations) it's doable. it's just looking at the tees available, the printers are clueless as to what boomboxes they SHOULD be printing most of the time and those lowres one color silk screens don't do what they do print justice. i'm hoping this clicks with members who say "it's about freakin' time!"

i already have a design in mind that's a "greatest hits" of all of the grail boxes.

the printer i'll be using has the same 18"h x 13w" wide image size i'll be using when i have my own equipment. filling that up with a dozen conions, helixes and lasonics etc. would look cool, especially to anyone who knows their boxes

The problem I have with most boombox shirts is they are a bold square picture of a box or boxes, with hard line borders... I feel a picture should blend into the shirt. Unless it's a picture of a box surrounded by some thing, so it's the focal point of the pic, but not the only thing in it.

The boomboxery shirt is a good example. It's a guy holding a boombox, not just a boombox.

I agree with you about 99% of boombox tshirts sucking. I hate the faux-vintage looks they give them or some trite spray can effects.
They all look like they're made from the same clip art pack most of the time.

I'd be interesed to see what you're planning on doing, (the image you posted was broken for me), I've got most of the grails and have photographed a lot of them quite nicely I think.

Rock On.

Yea the picture didn't work for me either.

I'd like to see some ideas you got. You might have a hard time right now getting everyone to send you pics, honestly just because you just joined today and essentially asking to make business off of pictures of our boxes.

BUT, the fact is you're asking, as opposed to just stealing images. So I'm sure some of us can respect that and moght be willing if they had an idea what you have in mind. And you're trying to do something cool regarding our beloved hobby/addiction. So that's cool.

sorry about that pic, it was working yesterday. i had to go back and replace it in 3-4 threads today.

the MAIN idea for boombox pics i had was straight ahead pics like my avatar of boxes with their handles up, and i'd edit the backgrounds out so the art is ONLY the boombox, but would do whatever people want. if people want low angles, i could do that too.

i HAD a pic with the angle i'm talking about, but it wouldn't post in this forum, and it's hard to find a low angle like this, but without LL cool J

another fun idea i had was if people are REALLY into boomboxes, do a pic of a given box's front on the front of a shirt and its back on the back of the shirt, though boombox backs aren't as interesting as the backs of bicycles. i wanted to do shirts with front and back views of bikes.

I hate the faux-vintage looks they give them or some trite spray can effects.

I've never heard of "duck rock."

What are you talking about? Lol. I tried looking up images but kind of confusing.

OMG... how can anyone be a boombox afficionado and never hear of duck rock?! you've HAD TO have heard the song "buffalo gals" back in the day, if you were there, and didn't hate hip-hop. real hip-hop BTW, gangsta is hip-opposite and an offense to anyone who knows that hip-hop is a culture and that b-boying, aka break dancing, was an ALTERNATIVE to gangs where people battled with dance instead of fighting. the very first form was called "uprock" which is basically stylized fighting, but touching an opponent is a violation of the code.

wow! i'm surprised that record cover isn't (world's... world's... world's...) famous here. it was the inspiration to the custom job i did on my TRC-935.

#127 in my funky beats playlist...

i was planning on posting a thread for it here. there's a wide variety of mostly instrumental beats there in new jazz, funk, hip-hop, electroswing, latin and some techno there that any dance music fans should put in their boombox to work the woofers, tweeters and booties

for future reference, this is the "LL cooljay boombox" (from his record cover) aka JVC RC-M90

still no offers for pics sadly

The reason a boombox owner might not know what "duck rock" is, is because a boombox is not subject to ONLY playing whatever "duck rock" is.

Boomboxes play..... whatever the owner wants.

Newbie needs some manners..
who have i offended? what was it i said? i don't recall calling anyone names. i don't do that unless someone trolls first. maybe what i intended to be playful banter was read the wrong way. if that's the case, my humble apology.

You just gotta understand, you were pretty constantly ragging on some boxes that many members here actually like, and have spent some good time finding, restoring and modifying.

Many people here don't always agree with each others taste, one little comment about it not being your style is totally fine... it the constant bashing in multiple threads that offends people. Most of the pictures you post and comment on are stuff you don't like. It's usually more acceptable to comment on boxes you do like.

But you're free to speak your mind.

I agree
This forum ain't like any other. Lots of respect here.
And although some of us didn't understand the "Duck Rock" reference....I can assure you there's not much else the collective doesn't know about boomboxes.
No love lost.
Welcome aboard.

I do remember that song "Buffalo Gals" I had just never heard the term "duck rock" We all learn something new every day :-D But you have to remember, we have members of all ages here, and not everyone listens to the exact same genre of music, or grew up listening to duck rock or even hip hop. Some people grew up blasting N.W.A. and EAZY E out of these boomboxes, nothing wrong with that either. To each his own. Rock, Reggae, Rap, Hip Hop, duck rock, classical, jazz, funk, metal, latin or whatever, we all love music.

I am a boombox aficionado and no I had never heard of duck rock but thanks for the history. But I have to agree with trippy, for instance the Vela discolite boombox that you called "tacky" is owned and loved by many members here, so not everyone thinks its all that "tacky"...Theres a boombox for everyone, but even though one persons favorite might not be MY personal fave, I'm not gonna bash it, because THATS tacky ;-)

In time, maybe the guys and gals will learn your style of playful banter and humor, and might not be so quick to take offense  All in due time  Peace...
