My 3 boombox rotation at my girl's bar in the basement is the JVC RC M90, Lasonic TRC-975, and my Toshiba RT S90. Yes I have a Conion C100...yes I have a Sharp GF 777, a Rising 20/20, a JVC RC M70, a Realistic SCR8, a Lasonic TRC-931, and a few other quality boxes.
I do not have any 3 piecers...nor do I have a Big Ben...nor any AIWAs...nor do I own a single Crown.
I do not own a Telefunken M1. I do not own a Sanyo MX-920...I do not own a Sharp above the 8989.....
Thanks to badboybill, blu_fuz, and the omnipresent Skippy....I've heard all of them .....except the Big Ben and any Aiwas.
I can understand, based on my readings, how fantastic the Aiwas sound...and how ill Big Ben is...but this is THE lowdown....
#1 Conion C100...98 points...f*cking loud...plenty of bass...as beautiful as a Victoria's Secret model....the ultimate boombox..
#2 JVC RC-M90...97 points...if it had the C100's bass it would be 100 points...visually perfect, regardless of what the haters say....its still MY #1.....
#3 Sharp GF 777....90 points...its fn dope...looks sick as hell...adjust the dials and you can make it sound the way it needs to sound....

....all arguments welcome...

BTW...I love my TRC-975....but its got nothing on an M90...and both of mine are mint....

So ...was there a specific question being asked here? Or, mere points of views? :-D I can't seem to disagree either :dunce:

The Conion just nails what a boombox should be on every level. It's massive. It's flashy. It's got both LEDs AND needle VUs. It sounds awesome. It turns heads like no other boombox. The JVC M90 comes very close, but the Conion has the advantage. While the JVC may sound better it simply doesn't have the presence that the Conion has.

I agree the C100 certainly has the 'look'. Whilst I haven't heard a C100, I have heard Scotty's M90 and was very impressed!! However, after hearing many big three piecers, they certainly sound the best to my ear. I'm all about build quality and sound quality and that does tend to lead me to 3 piecers in general but for the pure, classic 'Boombox' style & presence, the top shelf 1 piecers certainly win hands down!! ;-)

:agree: too.

Ok lets argue a bit (thats was the idea at least :-P ) - nothing wrong with the 3 piecers actually IMO. Most of them have the speakers so good attached , so man hardly feel that they can be detached ( some of the boomers even dont need wires when attached ). Most of the 3 piecers kill any one piecer ( except probably boomblaser/kabooms) on sound. And i mean instant kill :-P Love em because of the bridge status between the pure ghetto and hi-fi too. Damn i dont have many 3 piecers , but planning to fix that  So all of you - give me your black 3 piecers with spectrum analyzers :-D .

Having owned all three C-100f, M90, GF-777z I can agree to you loving your C-100f the best. Heck I even got rid of my M90  for a Korean C-100f  because the M90 bored me. I love all my big Conions!! My best 3 piece is my Sharp GX-33. :breakdance: HK-9000 too. My Wx-1 is a hitter too because its huge and a 3 piece!!

To me every box has its own characteristics of looks and sound. That's what makes owning each one so freaking awesome :-D Most of us as teenagers could only afford one box and usually it was cheap because in the 80's the prices were so crazy. I'm just glad that I am able to own a big piece of this history and have all the different Grails of the times.

I own pretty much all the boxes mentioned here except for a few. And if you asked me, if you could only keep one unit which would it be? I would probably tell you forget that I'm keeping them all  Besides owning my original Lasonics from new my first real extra large Boombox purchase was my Conion C100. I had to have one and believe me was well worth it.

But in all honesty I just can't compare each box and put a number on the top box because of my thought process of each one having its own distinction in looks, sound, build quality, performance, size, weight, battery life... So because of all these different things I say I love each one independently and equally

To me, the only reason 777's fetch a high price is because people want to show off that "in your face" 4-woofer look it's got. Don't get me wrong, they sound good, but not great. The highs & detail come nowhere near an M90.

As for the S90? Well, it's kinda boring looking IMO, unless it's at night and the "Adreas" light is glowing. If you walk down the street with it, nobody is going to give you props for it the way they would with those other 3 boxes.

If all 4 of those boxes were available for the same price, then C100 hands down --- it's the loudest, the biggest, and if it lacks some of the M90's detail/precision, it makes up for it in styling, LED's, and did I mention size?

Of course, the Telefunken will smoke all of them in pure sound quality.......but only indoors. If you're outdoors and LOUD is what you want, you need a 1-piece.

Thanks for that reply Bill.

Having never heard in person or owned a C100/777/M90 I was having a knee jerk panic reaction that I need to go and buy the next C100/777/M90/etc box that pops up.
