Without him, none of us would be here with our fancy music reproducers, because there would be no pop music as we know it. Here's remembering one of the earliest developers of the solid body electric guitar (1939).

From Wiki...
Lester William Polfuss, known as Les Paul (June 9, 1915 – August 13, 2009) was an American jazz guitarist and inventor. He was a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar which "made the sound of rock and roll possible." His many recording innovations include overdubbing, delay effects such as "sound on sound" and tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording. His innovative talents extended into his unique playing style, including licks, trills, chording sequences, fretting techniques and timing which set him apart from his contemporaries and inspired many of the guitarists of the present day.

you know his contribution to modern music.
is and will always be second to none.
this is the man that invented multitracking amongst many other things.
he was also a extremely and i mean extremely underated guitar player.
people might not even think it but a lot things les paul did first.
he was a trully free thinking man who completely changed everything to do with music.
just a amazing man.
he has had a amazing life and he will be remembered.

i will actually say with no question.
with the invention of the electric guitar and multitracking this was the most influential guitar player of all time.
sorry if that sounds like a pretty lofty claim.
there is no doubt it is for sure.
someone most likely would have come along with multitracking first.
his inlfuence on music runs so deep it is almost beyond comprehending.
not to mention the many many many studio techniques this guy pioneered.
