Leaving a tape in too long

Last night my CFS-45 was working fine. I left a tape in the deck (system was completely turned off) because I forgot to take it out. Now, when I put in any tape, it sounds quiet and raspy. Is this some odd coincidence or is it because I left the tape in too long and it did something?

Considering it was on Stop, it couldn't have been.

If you had mentioned that it was stopped, I would not have asked. If the tape you played and left in the boombox was really old, or dirty, it might only be a dirty play head. I would suggest cleaning and demagnetizing the play head and see where that gets you.

Yeh, this boombox has been acting weird on me. First there's a problem, then it automatically gets corrected. This time, I had to do something about it. Borrowed my friend's demagnetizer, cleaned the head and other parts of the deck just to be safe. Deck seems to have improved enough after doing so.

Really? Sweet!! If only all boombox problems were that easy to fix. If the surface of the play head has any kind of dirt, corrosion, or pitting on it, it will become dirtier more quickly than if the surface is smooth. Keeping the play head clean is really important with a lot of tape use.
