Not a boombox question, hence it's presence in the "off-topic" room.

Does anyone have or know someone with one of these? Preferrably a 2011 or 2012 model.

Want to know the "real world" fuel mileage (unloaded). GM does not quote mileage on HD models. Details are welcome, such as 2wd or 4wd, standard, extended, crew cab, 2500/3500/DRW... to put a configuration with the mileage obtained.

Thx.

My friend has a 2007 Chevrolet 3500HD "single rear wheel" crew cab 8 foot box 4X4 automatic trans with a fiberglass topper and he say he gets 18-22 mpg all the time on the hwy and interstate.
I know it's older, but I'm sure the newer Duramax gets just as good or better mileage......... :hmmm:

Not necessarily sure about the "later is better" with respect to mileage. The thing is that later model duramax have smog equipment that wasn't present on the earlier models.... unsure of the year cutoff. Also, the latest round of Duramax's also have significantly higher power output than earlier models: Almost 400hp and 765ft/lbs. of torque. Not sure if the higher power ratings come at the expense of fuel mileage.

Hey Norm, it might be on 'Consumer Reports' webpage for comparisons of full size trucks they tested. :hmmm:

12-14 mpg according to Consumer Reports. Happened to have CR segment on local morning radio show, guy called in with that question.
I didn't think that's so good for a diesel, but they're all about power not economy.

Nope. Not gonna buy one if it gets 12-14. It's a big decision and there's no going back so I gotta be sure which is why I'm asking. I bought a lot of new vehicles in my lifetime and at my current age, I think this may well be the very last vehicle I buy so I need to be really sure.

12-14 sounds low to me. I've operated a tow business a couple decades ago and our F350/F450 tow trucks were averaging 12 miles per gallon and this is with tons of idling, 10,000 pounds curb weight, and towing vehicles, and operating in an urban environment. So again, that does sound low.

For the newer diesels, mostly what I've heard is something in the range of 16-22 which sounds promising.

norm my coworker got a 2010 silverado 2500 hd with the duramax diesel and that new smog addition which u have to fill up with this special liquid to reduce smog but he says that he got it because it has more torque plus his has the allison transmission which is what all our garbage trucks use ,,he never complained about mileage,, yet he said it was mostly because he pulls a real big boat and other friends that use the f250 complained they had a lot of transmission problems when hauling big boats especially out of the water,, i know the newer fords now have the new 6 speed tranny which helps on the mileage and the new diesel engine with even more torque.. me i have the new ford f150 cant complain especialy the 5.0 engine which get good gas mileage from a v8 :-)
