Does anyone who has the 1st edition where the tape deck says soft eject soft touch control know if this deck is mechanical or auto.. I need belts but when you hit play the head assembly don't move up into position and I'm wondering if it's because of being automatic :-O :hmmm:

It is auto. That's where the soft touch comes in. I'm having issues with mine at the moment as well.

Well I finally fixed mine. Had to take it apart and clean up real good and replace all belts :-D

remember when u replace any belts take a look to make sure u have no belt debrie hanging inside the deck ,,that is if the belts are not existant, if it still has the belt and a bit worn or slipping under load than yes replace and it done correctly it should work without a hitch unless there where other problems that needed to be addressed like something broke or missing or even a piece of belt get tangled and makes the deck work erracticly :-) :-) :-) :-)

Mine just had tons of dirt inside the whole box and of course collected inside deck causing it to stick

Bill!!

Did you take any pictures of your deck assembly?

I'm replacing the take up ring and managed to screw up the position of the bar piece that sits in there that hits the record switch contraption.

It's SUCH a pain to rebelt this deck too.. ugh.

Rick are you working on 1st edition or 2nd? My 1st edition is missing the plastic record bar lever. If I have any pics there on my computer and will post in a day or so. These decks need four hands to install belts :-(

1st edition here Bill!

I need some wire locations that have come off the deck too.. could've sworn I took a bunch the last time I screwed it up, but can't find them at all.
Was three or four years ago I guess..

Thanks Bill!!

Rock On.

Interesting thread....Is this the only Lasonic soft touch mechanism?

Bill, glad to hear a clean up and belts are all it needed. The soft touch decks scare the hell out of me (i.e. M90)

Good luck Rick!

It's more of a fully auto deck than soft touch. The heads raise by motor rather than mechanical. My other two 931's are mechanical. Believe it or not the M90 isn't to bad but the deck board is very tight with all the components and make it literally impossible to even test...

For the 1st time ever I had to take a box to a technician because I had a hard time keeping my hand steady during testing and blew out a resistor on the M90 deck. It cost lots of money for repair but was well worth getting deck fully working ;-)
