Hi, just joined because I bought a JVC PC-5JW today off of craigslist. what is interesting is the guy had the original sales receipt.
$730 in 1982. That is over $1700 in today's dollars. Imagine.... no wonder they sound soooo good. I posted photos but I dont see them...so I just put the links here...

Welcome, it sounds like your addiction is just getting primed.

$730 seems high, does anybody have the original MSRP for that model? :hmmm:

check the images, one is a scan of the original receipt!
btw, I have owned a PC-5JW since I bought one from a Pawn shop in new orleans in 1988 after a fire in Baton Rouge messed up my Panasonic RX-5030 that still worked, incidentally, after the fire. should have kept it....

I don't doubt the receipt I was just wondering what the actual MSRP was from JVC at the time.
Look at the TAX, that's a fraction of what most of us pay for sales tax now.

Congrats! You will have to let me know how it sounds... I had been contacting Carl about buying it, but he didn't seem to enthused about shipping it...

Hey, justcuisin, too funny that you checked on it from way out there. Carl drove into SF today from up north on an errand and dropped it off. I don't think it is "collector" grade machine. Big cigarette burn on top, very dirty and very, very used. But I wanted it anyway as I enjoy the cleaning and fixing as much as the owning and listening. I noticed the speaker cones have whizzers, so I am suspecting they are not original. Cassette looks pretty unused, which is good since I am a cassette guy. i even got the original car plug for 12V system cigarette lighter.

Yeah, I am not much of a "collector" myself.. I like customizing too much! I was planning on putting all the internals of that JVC into a 1-piece Boombox shell along with some other funky mods..
Good thing about the tape deck working, I had asked about that and if the car adapter was included as well.. ;-) Have fun!

We have "ZERO%" Sales tax here in Ory-Gun   If you buy a car for $19,999. Then, that's all you pay.

Drive on over the Cali so you can take one up the tailpipe courtesy of our out of control tax and spend politicians. :-P
