My dad came down for a visit finally after winning this radio many weeks ago and brought it with him! He has a US shipping address so I was able to bid/win the auction. Without his help I wouldn't have gotten my very own M71 Gold edition  . These 3 pics are as it sits now, dirty and all, but I will be cleaning it up and perhaps adding some more gold to this beauty. Those black parks on the speaker grill are paint where it was too gloopy I guess as someone tried to repaint the grill at one point. It has both original antennas still, and the blue is still visible on the speakers. Hoping it will be even brighter when cleaned a bit!
Now, who do I talk to about getting a gold M71 pic above my avatar like I see some members have? :surf:

It sure is redbenjoe! I'm actually glad you replied so I could point something out. The M71 in your avatar has bright goldish speaker rings, and when i just took one of mine off, the back is as bright as those! The front is tarnished and faded a bit, but it leads me to believe that when brand new, the fronts were as bright, just like the unit in your pic!

On an unrelated topic: Is there some way to find out the correct colour JVC used to paint this box? Or, will i be best going to some Home Depot and trying to get the colour matched? I may want to do some touch-ups on small scuffs in the future.

Here's just 2 pics showing the right speaker ring I removed to check the back of, and then re-installed. I simply used soap/water and compare it to the left untouched ring. Oh man, what a night and day difference. The blue in those speakers keeps on a poppin' too!

Great score, Stretch! Well done indeed.

It looks like the M71 is prone to the same tarnish and ware as the gold on a Technisonic TC-999. I sucessfully restored my TC-999, as documented here:
viewtopic.php?f=47&t=11211&hilit=TC+999+restoration

But it's a LOT of work, and it takes a lot of patience, but if the love is there ANYthing is possible!

Good luck!

Rock On.

I Am Legend
eric --

first --i was never lucky enough to own or even see a new m71-
but my gut feel is that even brand new -- none were NOTHING like that
over-brite gold in my avitar -
instead --my 'real' m71 and EVERY one i have ever seen -
are very similar to yours -
with a very cool/subtle light 'champagne' color - :-)
even much lighter than the famous marantz 'gold '
and the avitar shot is from a magazine cover -
which i think was almost a cartoon-like exaggeration

second --i doubt if home depot or paint stores will mix you
that 'titanium' color -- maybe then can ??
but - i suggest you visit your local hobby shop -
that sells model plane paints -
bring your box --
bet they have a close match

Honestly, the M70JW with its silver skin looks just a ssweet if in good shape, but I'm a sucker for gold, and I wanted an M70 as EVERYONE seems to say they rock, so I went all out and waited for a gold M71 :-P . My plans for this specimen? Will get 100% dismantled like I did to the M50. Cleaned, reassembled with care, and I'm hoping to get something special done to it that should set it apart from the normal M71 Golds  . We'll see about that last thing.

Good tips Gluecifer and Joe, I'll check that 999 restoration and look in to other places for the paint like hobby shops.
Thanks guys!

Well I can't wait to clean it up! I wanted to wait before taking it apart until at least wednesday when the gf sees it assembled, so that when I have it in one hundred pieces she knows what it looked like and won't bash me for littering my apt with boombox parts  .
Where is a good place to buy that contact cleaner spray for switches etc? The Source?

i did just recall that our formidable member BSL posted that there really was
a ' very gold' model -- like my avitar ( NOT a 71)

but then --what does he know ??
