Could not find a voltage selector...thought it was multi voltage and no selector.
Plugged in and now i've toasted the transformer i think.
Selector was hidden on the bottom.

Still works on batteries. Not sure if i've buggered anything else.

Very gutted right now guys.

I'll be looking for a transformer at least.

Feel bad to do this to Bill's box.

:-/ :bang:

I'm sorry to hear of your situation with the Sanyo 720. I know you were really looking forward to getting your hands on this one.

Your 720 is obviously like my JVC 727 with a voltage switch on the underside unlike other Sanyos that have it on the back. I remembered triple checking the voltage switch on my HItachi TRK-8080 that I bought from Bill. It arrived still set to 110V like yours.

Maybe the 9998K I have here has a similar 15V transformer. :hmmm: I've got a 15V Hitachi multi voltage transformer from a TRK-9140 here too if you think it might work.

Don't worry Scotty, I'm sure we can come up with a local fix.

James... :-)

Scott sorry this happened :-(. If unit works on batteries then only issue will be with transformer or power board.

Ouch. Maybe just fit a Jaycar transformer into it. They work and are only $11.50.

I did actually get one of these today Warren. I'm not a solderer so i won't be able to solder it to the power board. It should be adaptable right? The only thing which won't come across to the new transformer are the voltage selector points.

Hey man. I should also say I'm sorry to hear it happened.
If it eases your mind any I put Jaycar transformers in all my jap boxes and they work great. They're really easy to solder in, but no sadly you can't make them voltage selectable.
Someone will find you a Sanyo selectable one I'm sure. For now the generi one will be super fine.
:-)

You may find that the powerboard is fried - hope not!
Let me know if you need a hand with the soldering.

 so important reminder is to always check for voltage selector and voltage inputs on any box you receive especially in Europe ;-)

I'm not sure i'm out of the woods just yet, but regardless, i'm the perfect example to make a lesson out of here.

Bridging with a bit of foil, and it's powering up.

Hope that's temporary

Australia is a very very long way away from Europe ;-)

Fuse just might have saved me guys. Bridging with a bit of foil, and it's powering up.

oooof. worse case scenerio. better to test the fuse with DMM and replace it if bad. Never jump a fuse man?!?!

Good news though

What a relief! Glad the fuse was the right one. Good lesson learned. When I got my RX 5230 from Jens voltage check was the first thing I did. It is safe to hook 240v tap to 120V at least wont burn up anything. It had115 -130v tap that I really liked besides the 100-110 also. When I checked the house voltage it was 120V. I am sure Bill might have left a note to change voltage settings before use. :-O :w00t:

Actually Scott and I discussed it in PM's as I told him it was selectable but I didn't know where switch was. I never thought to look on bottom :hmmm: But in all seriousness I had to pack n ship like 15 boxes and voltage selection was last thing on my mind. But it just goes to show that when you get a box you need to check everything before plugging in including voltage in, volume, power switch etc...
