Been a while since I have posted a ponderable.....

Here recently, I have noticed several baby names that aren't really traditional names. Not even a throw back to an old timey name. Naming babies 'things' or 'verbs'. Sure, we all know of the crazy names that celebrities use, but these are like normal people naming their kids wackado stuff. I always think "man when that kid turns 18". But then again, I'm much older than 18 and never changed my name, despite the fact that I've never been a fan of it.

So I was wondering.....do you like your birth name?
Do you go by a nickname instead (say Ricky instead of Richard)?
Would you change your name if it was and easy process? What would you change it to?

Just call me Maggie, or maybe Libby

I have two nephews, two nieces with... Interesting names, all sweet kids though. Anniyah (niece), Kwali (Nephew), Harlem-Malaiki (Niece), Malachite (Nephew).

Don't know where my sister came up with the names. That's the correct spelling though.

Im hoping my first kid my might go with Dean or Nathan for a boy, Natalie or Katherine (Kate, but not after the princess) for a girl. Whenever that happens

I spoke to a guy on a tech support line the other day name TRISTAN and I could tell when he said it, he was ashamed. That sucks
I shortened mine from Christopher to Chris!

I think (but I might be wrong!) that the US is much more used to unusual names than here in the UK as there is a much wider diversity of cultures there. Until recent times we've been much more traditional with names like James, Jack, etc etc. and my kids have traditional names, even my cat is called George and my dog is called Samuel :)

If I hear of a kid with a weird name or even worse a quirky spelling of a 'normal' name I just feel sorry for them...having to spell it their entire life! I've got a weird surname, that whilst its an old Scottish one, is unusual as it has a Q in the middle...no one can pronounce it or spell it and it drove me mad as a kid lol!

Saying that, my brother has just named his kid Cornelius!!...poor poor kid :( :)

My name's short, too. But that doesn't mean that people can spell it.
With a name like "Aram," most people are under the impression that I've mis-spelled, then mis-pronounced my own name. That's not the case. My Dad is Armenian and my Mom is Irish, so I got the Armenian name and my brother got the more traditional name "Ryan."
It's not a big deal at work, though - Because everyone's name is "Hey!"

That's an amazing coincidence. I know a fella called Amam Turnip. No, seriously, I do.

Anyone wishing to call me Maggie will have to wait for the third Friday of each Month. :w00t:
