It's not great, but it's my boom box right now.

Here's my radio. A Sharp GF 8989 and has 28 watts I think.
This baby has been with me for many years. Like about 20 I think.
Everything works but the tape player seems a bit slow. For that reason I don't use the tape part.
Also the antenna isn't the right one. It seems a tad short.

It's in my shop and I use the radio part every day. I store it in a nice clean room.
I've always liked the look of the Sharp radio's

Years ago I had a bigger one but sold it. Always regretted that too.

It's not about the biggest and the best (well, to some folk) but rather the enjoyment and pleasure a BB gives and yours is as faithful a friend as any. What you have is a nice BB, it's nice to know how much you need each other!

This was the one I once had at work. But I don't remember the model. It was a nice little box. Maybe someone can tell me what it is.
It vanished one day though. I was not pleased.

You're sure right about the highs. I just wish It had a bit more bass.
This is a nice medium sized box though for sure.

Those are very good looking boxes. Right-sized and lightweight for carrying around.

Just a note about watts though. The label on the back might say 28W, but that's just consumption. Of if that label was on the front, it usually means "peak music power" which is nonsense. If you want to find its true watts, using the same type of testing standards your old home receivers used, look for a copy of the service manual. Sharp usually published pretty honest specs.

In fact here's the GF-8989 manual. It says it produces a minimum of 2.7 watts per channel into 4 ohms from 100 Hz to 20 kHz, with no more than 10% total harmonic distortion. That's just the minimum across that frequency range. Maximum is undoubtedly higher (I'm guessing something like 4-5 watts per channel).

I think that is a nice box. I enjoy any box that has meters, cassette, and a full logic deck with a good tuner. That checks all of the boxes that are needed.

Thank Reli,

I do like this box, I would like it more if it was twice the power and size though. LOL

The tape plays a bit slow so I guess it would need some belts and cleaning.

I was listening to Judas Priest the other day..... B e t w e e n .... a ... h a m m e r... a n d ....a n....a n v i l !........aaaaaaaa.....aaaaaa. waaaaa.

I'm probably going to sell my 8989, so if anyone here want's it let me know.
Problem is I have no idea what it's worth or what to ask.
Or maybe it's something just better sold locally.

I could keep it to I suppose.....But it will only collect dust.

I think I have found another nice box that I will buy from a member here on the forum.

Goodness gracious me, this is sounding like a one-BB-at-a-time-kinda-guy - what on earth is the world coming to? :w00t:  :nonono:
