One piece?.....yes
Stereo speakers?.....yes
Tape deck?....yes
Aerial?.....yes
Handle?.....yes
Takes batteries?.....nope
Sounds f'ing awesome?.....hell yeah!

Bought this yesterday at a local charity shop. Spotted it and asked the woman behind the counter about it as it had no price or details. She says the cd doesn't work so she couldn't ask much for it...she says "is a fiver ok?"

Err...yep ok

Grabbed it and ran!

Pretty much mint and all works bar the cd. Tapes sound freakin awesome on it, got bags of bass and treble and goes really loud.

The glass door slides automatically when you approach it which is pretty swish. The remote can control everything....its can control loads of other Bang and Olufsen stuff too (if I had any!)

So here is my £5 Bang and Olufsen Beosound Century made from mid 90's to 2004....it's got a lot of boombox features but ain't no boombox!

Done a bit of googling and these were £1000 new which is about $1700!

The unit sells for between £100 and £300 on eBay...even the remote and the handle/aerial sell for about £30 each! This was a bit of a bargain I reckon!! :-)

:jawdrop: :nugget: (not sure what that second emoticon is but I've yet to use it. :-) ).

The Reel cassette looks stunning loaded in that system.

I remember those from the early 90's I believe. I always wanted one. They sound friggin fantastic! Def not a boombox but a hell of a score...especially for a fiver. Nicely done!

Meh, it's OK i guess! Yeah, the CD transport mech is actually pretty easy to fix on these. I'd tell you how, but then I'd have to send a Ninja round to erase your memory once you'd done the job. :-P

OK, here's what you'll most likely have to do:

USE THE FORCE, for it is within you.

Or you could download a manual from Beoworld that explains how to remove the transit screws. ;-)

Or I could post a link to THIS ONE.

What happens is that people move these things without taking the required precautions to keep the whirly bits from whirling, so have a look at page four.
They usually start working again at some point, even if they've been moved without the screws in the right position, at worst you'll have some straightforward mechanical fettling to do so don't bother warming up your soldering iron just yet!
Ya jammy t**t!

Good to hear that John! I've already watched a video on how to get the cd part out and it seems pretty easy. I'll have a look and see what I can find in there.

The link didn't work though mate :-)

I'll be over the moon if I can get the cd going again. The clamp works fine but when you press play nothing happens. The transport screws in the rear were loose and the deck springy so it's not in transportation mode. Fingers crossed! :-)

Correction...the link didn't work in the forums mobile version (I'm on my iPhone) but it did when I switched to the full version...weird. Sorted tho and I have the manual, thanks mate! :-)

I had a Danish friend that had a B&O system and I have to say it was one of the best sounding systems I have ever heard in my life. And of course the design and style is completely over the top. Functional artwork.

However, being an American Pig that I am, I prefer my 1200 watt Carver amp mated to Kenwood components served up through a set of Cerwin Vega AT-15's.

His B&O system is pure grace hanging on the wall, where as my system can knock his off the wall and blow the wall over!

I bet both cost more than a fiver though lol

Very nice Simon, can you post a pic next to a box so I see a size comparison.

Do the speaker covers come off? it what would be interesting to see what size they are as the unit looks quite thin.

I wouldn't pass it up for a fiver
