To my knowledge this is a segment in the UK version of The 80s: The Decade That Made Us. The U.S one was redubbed and then there have been a few more episodes devoted to other aspects of the 80s. These are airing this week on Nat Geo here in .au and have had a sports ep and a gadget ep.

The gadget episode had a good ten minutes on boomboxes including a wonderful interview with Lyle 'Boombox Project' Owerko.

This is spectacular viewing, even if the boomboxes they have on hand are pretty limited in scope.
