Here's the specs in the service manual. The power output seems really low.....
4 watts per channel for the outers, and 3 watts per channel for the subs......For a total of only 14 watts at 10% distortion? Hell, an M70 puts out that much. :-/

Maybe just a tad more but it does sound about right. Keep in mind that unlike some of the higher power boomboxes that uses 2 amps per channel in bridged mode, the 777 uses only 1 amp in single ended mode per channel.

This past 4th of July I had the 777z out at the camp site. A very unlikely place for a city unit like that.

IMHO, the 777 is a mobile recording studio. It has enough volume knob to get loud, but it's sweet spot is low to mid volume. Where there is tons of head room. At low volume you can bring up the subs, you don't need lots of highs to get the job done.

When you record, playback and mix, you don't do it AT MAX VOLUME. You do it on clean ears, at low volumes and get as much frequency spectrum as you can.

The 777 in this capacity is stellar.

The 777 as a Street Blaster at MAX volume can still be cool, but it's muddy, lacking highs and distorted compared to other boxes that size. The subs are basically useless at high volume because they fuzz out.

I think Sharp built the 777 with tons of capabilities. It's the cave man in us the take them to the street and CRANK'EM UP!

Interesting numbers but..... Numbers aren't everything. My trusty Hitachi TRK-9150W only has 7.5W RMS per channel but kills some 'more powerful' boxes I've heard for sheer grunt. Don't forget the beautifully bassy sounding M9990 does it's' thing with only 3.5W RMS per channel!
It's hard to fathom that the Panasonic RX-DT680 has more power from one channel (15 W RMS)

Or this little fella: Sony CFS-9000 - 22W RMS per channel!!:Boomboxery Photo.

777 has some power, it's just useless!. i mean it can bump some woofers with the sub volume turned up it'll wear out those subs with the thimble sized voice coils . the speakers are not matched well with the amp or the box . i almost wish lasonic had their own version of the 777 ,now that would look and sound bad ass.still love the 777 even with it's flaws still a mean lookin' sumbich.

Well, I was sadly disappointed by the 777Z performance & learned that the same HAF 1392 AMP Ic's(2x2 channel) are in the CONION, but the CONION is configured for a push/pull type of setup? The 777Z is a straight 4 channel config, piggy backed for the SUB out. Anyway, you can run them @ 2.5-8 OHMS per channel(x4) & get a max dirty output of 40-45 watts, like the CONION. The speakers that SHARP used in the 777 were absolute garbage with a capital 'G' but the amp specs are MAX noise levels & often are much cleaner sounding than that...Also, it is true that it will be hard to get decent bass from a shallow, long box but I've found drivers that worked as desired, with very little guess-work & cabinet damping...

I know,, the 777 constuction is strange. The sub sound is like a carton and the outsidespeakers have the most sound. The next problem is, the outside woofers take the space from the subs and press the air aganinst... you understand what i mean ???... ists not easy to tell it in english. Soft membrane for the subs and the outsidespeakers are harder (when you push the membrande with the fingers)...
THIS system works great in my 777. Subs from a Hitachi trk 3d80 and the wideband speaker from a greatz gt 460.
The sound is awesome

Videos are a lot in youtube :-)

To me, 777 sounds best with subwoofer level control at zero.

The level from my subs is on 11 o'clock. The main bass is at 9 o'clock... (without loudness)
This settings are in all videos on my channel.

But i think the original 777 needs this settings on zero.

I do not have a 777. I do have a 1000 on the way. How does that compare to the 777 for sound quality? 999 is also on my list :-D
