INSANE NEW Boombox Music Video

Hello boombox lovers!

Just wanted to share a new music I made using part of my boombox collection. Yes all the boomboxes you see are real with the visuals happening in real time! No post production trickery.

This is part of my electronic art visual project called Mantle Sound Core. I uses dozens of boomboxes during my live performance shows. The boomboxes are set up around the venue and work as an interactive art installation, receiving live UHF broadcast video feeds of audience members, creating audio feedback loops through microphones hooked up to the boombox, and playing ambient cassette tapes making dense shifting sound layers. There is even an old 8-bit nintendo with Contra hooked up to a boombox-tv that audience members can play during the set.

@Fatdog They are my favorite Montgomery Ward...though I do have some Realistics and they are cool too!!
The track was all live TR-808 TR-606 and Sh101 programming, recorded straight through no editing

oddly the air where I live provides enough mind nourishment that no hallucinogenic consumption is needed...I just get high straight off the boombox feeds.

@Lasonic TRC-920 will definitely let you know about the next show!!
last tour was in Spring, I played in Santa Barbara and LA a few times...no idea when the next tour will be, but I bring my boombox stacks to all my shows...you can even bring your boxes and be part of the show and receive live transmission of audio/video!

it took years of collecting to find them all..still searching for more, dreaming of a 20unit stack one day!


attached is one more close up pic...a bit hard to make out, but the camera is pointed at the stack of boomboxes so the image is showing up in one of the screens in the stack! I call this one "Boomboxes in the Night"

Boomdreamer, on a couple of Sunshine meets here in the eastern part of town (Florida) we had done that but not on a large scale as yours and not with screens just sync the music.

That must be one insane venue to witness live.

Welcome Aboard Very cool video. I'd prefer not to see a shirtless Dude (IMO) But the Video is very inovative and fresh!. We might have a few members here who might have a few more of those radios for You. There is already a type of Street Dance party that going around the country (and beyond). The DeCentralized Dance Party is a mobile party where hundreds show up with battery powered Boomboxes and tune in to a frequency Tom and Gary are broadcasting music on via a type od FM tuner in a Backpack. it took quite a few years of collecting to find so many...and definitely looking for more so if anyone has one to contribute please let me know!!!

I'm working on building nice portable cases for these so they can assemble and stack up on the go for each road show. Keeping these guys working and safe is a challenge.

I've heard of DDP, it looks amazing!! never had a chance to check it out in person.Iit would be an interesting collaboration to bring my portable boombox rig to their event.

check out this live video from my first tour, you can see some of the boomboxes set up around the venue, there's a shot at the end zooming out of the portavision boombox-tv to the view of the live projection feed with the live video feed on the screen. I always try to do the live analog/video broadcast (when setup time permits, half the time it doesn't work ) but when it does it's beautiful seeing boomboxes setup around the venue glowing and making noise
