I'm Dave, Age 22, and I live in a college town in Western Massachusetts. I'm more of a Walkman person, but I've come here because I'm becoming interested in the idea of having a few 80's boomboxes to take around town. I found this site because my little Magnavox is dying, I can't take my tunes with me out loud, and I thought I might find a replacement here. I'm most interested in small early-mid 80's boxen, the kind that aren't much taller than the woofers and likely have no line-in. Unusual, but I don't care to carry 20lbs all day, nor do I need more than a couple watts of audio for an impromptu dance party or shout-along.

Welcome Dave, this is a great place to share your passion whether it's walkmans, boomboxes or just 80's stuff.

There are plenty of very nice mini to smaller sized boomboxes that would fit what your asking for while offering very good sound, line-in jacks and very cool looks. Some even have a little walkman attached like the little JVC PC-100.

Welcome to the site Manamal!
I used to like that show with the same name back in the 80's dude used to turn panther, an eagle, a dolphin and other stuff.

Well, thank you all. I hope I like my stay here and find it as useful as I did my stay on Stereo2go. Now, pardon me while I continue the hunt for my first boombox, hopefully not settling for a low end Sanyo or Panasonic, nor spending over $100 shipped.

That is definitely doable. However, there are some good starter boomboxes from both Sanyo and Panasonic. My first boombox ever was the Sanyo M9935K and when I re-found one at a local thrift store, it led me on a journey that still goes on. Also, the Panasonic RX-5150 is a wonderful beginner box.

Mmm, college town in Western Ma? You might want to check the local flea markets in Hadley and Holyoke. I've scored a few boxes from them much cheaper than eBay.
