Hey dudes,

I'm new to the Forum, name is Leeroy and I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I like the look of boom boxes but I don't look like I should own one....

I'm on the look out for a box and thought I'd join the forum to learn and maybe get some help from you guys in finding the right system for myself. I'm also prepared for the fact that it's an addictive hobby. If there's anyone from Melbourne (or worldwide) that could hook me up, I'd be most grateful.

The boxes i like the look of are: Magnavox D-8443 & Sharp GF-767

Welcome Leeroy.

I'm in Brisbane, and relatively new to the Boomboxery world, I'm reading and learning, reading and learning.

There seems to be a few Aussie members, in fact I'm surprised I haven't seen an Aussie meet-up thread.

Welcome aboard Leeroy! Wonderful to have some more local interest. (I'm just down the road in Geelong.)

Those Magnetbox D-8443's come up pretty regularly on ebay, but domestic ones are labelled Philips.
I've seen these go for as little as 60 and as expensive as 200 bux, depending on condition.

The 767 is a rarity in .au, but the 777 is more common. A 777 will set you back 5-600 in good working
condition on ebay, but finding one locally (like I did) may make it substantially less.

It really depends how bad you want either as to what you're going to pay and how successful you'll be on ebay.

Not too many Melbourne collectors on here, around 3 or 4 I think.

Good luck finding your most wanted and feel free to drop me a line if you want a chat.

"There seems to be a few Aussie members, in fact I'm surprised I haven't seen an Aussie meet-up thread."

The problem I've found is that not a lot of .au dudes stick around long enough.

Been quite a few come through over the years but I think a lot lose interest as the more boxes
you decide you neeed the more you realise you can't get a lot of them locally and prices/shipping
can be very limiting.

The other problem is the geography. I'm in Geelong, You're in Brisbane, AZA's in WA and a few guys are scattered inbetween.

I'd LOVE to have a meet up! Can't think of anything more awesome, but until we get a few more in for the long haul I don't know
if we can organise a lot.

The time will come though. Most certainly.

I'm anxiously waiting on my first OS box to arrive from Japan,. a Sharp 808, I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm pretty sure Gluecifer has sourced a few from OS in his time.

Because we're a gazillion miles from anywhere it costs around $175-200 shipping on any decent sized radio
from .eu, u.s, .jp, etc, etc.

You're looking at a fair bit of money all together at the end of the day.

I consider any personal grail I have to go overseas for to get here all told for under $400 a genuine bargain.
