An RX-5500 ending over $700 bucks ???

Seriously? :-O

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &viewitem=

Seven hundred bucks is RX-7700 or 5350 territory.....

Bet the seller is having a grand ol' party now

I have one, and it's very high-quality, well-built, heavy, great looking, with cool toggle switches, a JVC-quality tuner, metal tape keys, awesome LED's that can be seen from a mile away....... And most importantly, it's my most "precise" sounding box.......Great for classical, acoustic, and vocals..............But it's not gonna win any outdoor battles.....It's a little too small for that.

I bought mine in perfect shape for only about $150 on Ebay Germany a little less than 3 years ago (plus about $60 for shipping). And it wasn't a "hidden" auction either.....Every collector browsing Ebay would (or should) have seen it.

So what has changed between then and now?

I wonder if it was because of me constantly saying how nice they sound ......Oh yeah I'm an international celebrity

I don't think that this is a trend. I was just chatting with another member a few days ago about how stupid this auction seemed, and that was back when it eclipsed $400.

No, not a trend, more like an anomaly. Also would not be suprised if the next one goes for anywhere between $125 and $200. Take away 1 or 2 of the bidders and the final price might be far different.

One thing though is that this model hasn't been seen in quite some time so a few collectors that grew impatient, who just had to have one probably felt they needed to buy now or they might never see another one again. Anyone that's been collecting for a long time, however, knows how foolish that line of thinking really is.

I now predict, 4 more to pop up any day now.

Beware as this is a common star wars collectors trick
say if i want to buy a big ben i will get a friend to sell one on e ebay (he dont have one but photos are ezy to get )and all my other friend bid on it
the price goes threw the roof (we will always win as our top dollar will be stupid)
and now billy bob say i have one of those and he puts it on ebay and i buy it for a song he dont get his big money
but like someone else said it will bring out all the hopefules and we will all get a box for a song

sorry if this is old new to you :-D

But don't the people doing that, still get hit with ebay seller fees on that high sale?

i think it has to do with the cosmetics of this unit , the top aluminum trim looks almost perfect,
and the winner bidder has only 38 feedback , that also comes into play. .

I am throwing around the idea of selling all my boxes now on ebay (not the dynasty) and getting 5x what I paid. Then in 7 months when the market takes a crap again I can buy all the same ones I sold for 1/8 of what I sold them for!

As my old dad:

All day leave home, a smart guy and a madness guy ... ... when the two meet, the deal is done!

Another thing that I do not agree, is when they find a radio (whatever that is) for a bargain price, sell at the price of an eye or an arm ... ... even among collectors ...
The radios are no longer a part and collection, to become commodities (because of the "rape" in prices offered).

But that is my opinion!

I don't hate on people that have to make a buck or a living on selling boomboxes that they find for cheap. It's all part of the game. I do it with cars all the time. Most of the time doubling my money....... Just the way things work.

Not sure I understand

Why would future ones drop in price just because you used fake shill bids to pump your auction up?

I think the reverse would be true. After all, you convinced other people that that box is worth a lot.

I think the point is to get collectors to sell off their collection, expecting a big payday. However the auction that made them believe that in the first place was a sham. But unless a non-paying bidder claim is made the seller will eat the not-so-small final value fees. And there is the risk of creating competition for yourself as now other potential buyers may think future auctions are undervalued and bid on them. :dunce:

But who can get in the mind of a StarWars action figure collector anyway.... not me!!!

I ve been into buying some old steering wheels few years ago and ive noticed a lot of speculative auctions as well. Just trying to rise the price of the real item on the real auction later . Its not a big deal to loose some money for ebay first but than the final prices were insane ( a few years ago ive seen momo indy sold for 2 k dollars  , normal price is around 150-200 euro in best condition...) So can be the same. May be not, who knows..... Its nothing bad if somebody is willing (or crazy) to give that stack of money anyway  . The bad thing is some f...n resellers are pointing this ebay auctions when we are tryin to have a good price :nonono: . But we will hunt for good prices anyway. Thats part of the game. And is fun as well  .
