I guess it's no longer hunting season.

Now I'm just wasting gas.
The season was really on in the Fall around my parts but now the shelves are bare.
Perhaps the theory about people getting rid of what they didn't sell at the yard sales was a valid one,
and now they just wait out the winter until it's junk shedding time once again in the spring.
All I know is, I had a dream a couple of days ago that I found a VZ-2000 at the local Value village.
and every Thursday I check the Value Village, but all I see are
VHS players, VHS cassette rewinders, Clock radios, and eggs.
I want to take a month off to save gas
I want to but as soon as I do, thats when the big one comes in.
I 'm obsessed.
I feel like the captain from Moby Dick

Cheers OSS :afro:

 So true, I spend more on gas going to the thrifts than I could ever recover from my finds but how can we put a price on the thrill of the hunt and occasional find.

Hey scotty, don´t give up.
The days will come!

btw: i really found a VZ-2000 on flea, for lousy 10euros.
But needs a lot of work.

Therefor it looks like my 931i got lost in shipping usa-austria.
Ebay sucks!

And now go and hit a flea....

:agree: I never know when I'm going to find something, the seasons don't really have much effect in my area.
I agree with you, Don. Hunting in these parts sucks.

Honestly bobby I get tapes, turntables, walkmans, records, etc. occasionally but I only get a few boomboxes a year out of all my trips to the Thrift stores. I pass up dozens of eggs or beater late 80's early 90's black boxes every month not to mention the insane number of VCR's.

i would try only mom and pop thrift stores those are were i have found my heavy hitters also stay away from salvation armys they are a waste of gas i keep seeing more and more on ebay so 9 times out of 10 the good stuff is being put up on ebay and not in the store what a shame !!!!!

Hey scott i totally agree with you-for instance,i do the same car boot and second hand shop runs every week and largely find absolutely nothing-now i ride a bike so petrol is a bit kinder to me but its still a constant waste of petrol,as little as it is!and i also have have had those dreams and inklings that im going to find a box at my local bootsale very soon.... awhile ago i was dreaming of spotting a hitachi trk8080 at my local carboot-not an amazing radio for sure but that was the radio i dreamt of....until....get this....a while later i actually did find one at my local carboot!it was battered like a piece of haddock from the fish shop but i had to have it to 'fulfill my dream'.and now ive started dreaming im going to find a philips d8444,so hopefully bring it on eh

Well it sure is amusing to read a post that I wrote more than a year ago.
I was starting to give up hope on the hunting of Boomboxes.
In 2012, I have now given up hope, and so I scan Ebay once in a while.
I have seen nothing of value in my local thrifts now. People are giving up nothing.
Due to the economy, and the ongoing use of Boombox imagery in t-shirts and posters,
People must be trying to sell their old Boomboxes for all they can get.
I am so glad that I started hunting about 5 years ago.
I really found some mind blowing stuff and it was exciting while it lasted.
I still stop in to a thrift about once or twice a week, but only if I happen to be passing by one at the time.

Cheers OSS :afro:

I think perhaps some of the employees are mindful of any worthwhile gear that comes in and buy it before the public gets to see it.

It's either that, or all the retired & semi-retired people who make a living re-selling stuff on Ebay have beaten you to it.

well stretch my local big charity/thrift shop where i volunteer has an agreement with me wherebeing they are supposed to put all old portables to one side for me and then they never see the public eye-the boss in there is better now as he remembers me should one rarely come in-the previos boss who i also had the agreement with once forgot, let a minty gf9000 make it to the shelves and it sold the same day for just £40!!!!!i was ill at the time so couldnt get in to intercept it  and a so called contact of mine recently sold a gf777 out from under my nose-for £10!!!!! :w00t:
