Well, to a certain extend this really happened.
It is quite a story...
The nice guy who painted my car over a year ago - I met him at a local car show and as usual I had a boombox in the back seat: My crown 850. He got excited when he saw it and told me he had a new one sitiing in his attic for over 20 years! Of course i was like WTF and OMG and all these abbreviations that express surprise and excitement.
So of course i asked him if I could see it...he said he would take it down the next time he would go up in his attic.
So weeks passed and I did not want to push him. The next time we met, we did some minor paint work on Herbie where rust slowly started to come back here and there. I had my M70 with me this time and he got excited again and told me "That is the same one I have in my attic!" But after thinking and chatting about it a little more he claimed his one had double cassettes and was from "Clarion or something"....by now i had no idea if he was not actually talking about a cheapy.
Anyway, i still wanted to see it but he never got it down from his attic so i gave up and thought he wanted to keep it
.
But then - this christmas there was this big package under the tree
. I was expecting it to be a boombox because my parents know me good enough after all
but as I unpacked it I started thinking to myself that I had not expressed any specific wish for a boombox
. So what model could it be?
Well, after a few seconds, I had this thing in my hands and my facelooked like
.
It was a Rising 20/20 with square grills but what excited me most is that it was NEW...I mean no original box but the box had absolutely NO signs of use. Mint would not be enough to say it.
I looked at my parents filled with happiness but also with many questions.
Well, as you might already think the explaination was easy: THIS was in the attic of the painter guy and my parents got it off him while I was in Hamburg.
This baby booms and works like on its first day and the grey cover is so new grey - I almosr want to put it in the shelf with its back side to the front
.
The antennas are a dream and the aluminum trim has no scratches
.
I immediately fired it up and played Christmas sings all night - it was just great!
