Every situation and sale is different. Its up to the buyer to make the best decision about if the product is what they were expecting and go from there. All good points here.

Well, I sent them an email and a link to this thread and suggested $100.00 as a refund, and asked them to suggest what they thought would be right. I guess this place really carries weight these days because this is what they wrote back:

Hello Ken, we have sent you $125.00 refund. We are a small Mom and Pop store that sells many things. We have been selling on Ebay for over 10 years and since retiring 2 years ago, we have been doing it full time.
I thought I had described the item correctly, but this is certainly not my area of expertise and I respect your opinion.
We want our customers to be happy with their purchase and will bend over backwards to make it so. Integrity is the most important trait a person can have.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make this right.
Kindest regards,

All I could think of is "what would Norm do?" So I thanked them and explained that integrity is something we value here at Boomboxery also, and sent $50.00 of it back. I told them that I only suggested $100.00 and was expecting them to counter with a lower figure. That was based of course, on my belief that they honestly represented the box as they found it.

So thanks, everyone. I came this close to donating the $50.00 to Boomboxery, but stopped at the last minute. All I could think about was that they were retired.

Thank you for all the opinions and everyone chiming in. Got a refund so I guess I better move this one to the front of the line and spiffy it up for pictures. Got some work to do.

^ good man - You evaluated the situation for the transaction and everyone feels good about the end deal.

Isn't this site private again, so the link you would have sent them wouldn't work unless they became members?

Nice work Ken. I'm confident you will get the M70 worked out with a little elbow grease and of course we will help in any way.

Nice to know some people have their act together.

If they didn't see the link, then they are even nicer than I thought... :angelic:

i think its easy to demonize sellers sometimes we forget that most of the general public has never seen a real boombox so they might not be as knowledgeable as us about these things . some people i know cant even turn on a ****ing modern tv lol.

Great ending to the episode...just proves not all sellers are out to scam. I've been lucky enough to deal with far more decent and reasonable sellers than I have dodgy ones. Congrats on a better deal and top marks for doing the decent thing and giving the $50 back again...nice one :-)

Nice read........I've bought about 30 boxes on Ebay and only once did a box come in shambles! I was heart broken but I got a full refund and didn't have to pay for shipping.

Great end to the story, I see 2 people here who both made a healthy deposit in the karma bank. You will be rewarded again. I think returning the $50 was a really nice touch. Thats 2 people with integrity, you and the seller.
