Hi,I'm wondering who here has fully restored a boombox
i mean fully disasemble and bath and clean everything
new belts and if needed a paint job!!
So this means full restoration - a paint job if it really needs it.

I have only done 6 so far.
(1)Sharp GF-9494H.
All together with new belts and antennas! :)
(2)Sharp GF-9494X
Unfortunately it's a donor-parts box after an accident.
(3)Sharp GF-9696X
Full resto with new belts and antennas! :)
(4)JVC PC-V66.
This wasn't that easy, hard to get at some of the
Inards but came out very nice! Sounds 5 times
better now and is looking good with a working cassette!!
(5)JVC-RCM70JW.
Just needed cleaning and belts were perfect so
this was easy.
(6)JVC-RC838JW
Beautiful fully working now! :)

I have done some others but not fully torn down and bathed.

I'm looking forward to restoring my M-90 this winter after i get belts for it! :)
So let us know how many and what.
I didn't get so adventerous and do this before I saw you other guys doing
this so i figured if you guys can do it so can i!

Just no Sanyos yet!! :)

Oh man, tough question. Most of my radios have needed some level of restoration. Some more than others. M70 for sure, TRC-920 a few times, all 3 of my big Lasonic's, Victor 838, the list just goes on and on. Still no better feeling than striping one down and cleaning it up.

Nothing like rebelting and pressing play for the first time and hearing music from a deck that probably hasn't run in 10-20 years!

All but a couple have needed at least a partial strip down...a full strip down and bath would still be most of them as I like my boxes to be really clean inside and out. Most have had a grill respray but only a couple have need a bodywork respray. My Sharp GF9000 needed holes and cracks in the casing as well as 8 screw posts repairing...that's the biggest repair job I've done so far. Tho I'm working on a smashed Sharp GF9191 at the moment and this has a ton of damage and missing bits!...having fun doing it but there's probably 15 to 20 hours already invested!!

10.
I've restored 10.

I really can't afford a big money perfect box, so I pick up "hurtin' units" that look like they have potential and go to town. So far, the results have been great. The only box I never took a screwdriver to is my TDK.

Right now I'm working on a JVC PC-25. It's a light, fairly cheap 3-piece from '86 that a guy at work threw in my truck on Monday. It's a real piece of crap - scratched to hell, missing handle, hole in the top, crack in the front case, no line-in, no FM stereo light, fake tweeters - I could go on.

I sort of took it as a challenge. The main unit should be ready for paint tonight. I'm keeping it as true to original as I can, though I will add a line-in.

It will probably end up on my desk at work with my Sony CFD-444.

I'm enjoying every minute of it. :-)
