So my in-laws (wife's parents) sold their place and were cleaning out the garage the other day while I was there, and asked if wanted any of the old owners cassettes.

I'd seen before they had a bunch of books on tape, no thanks. But this time I asked if there was any music or still just books on tape. They said books on tape, but also looks like some blanks. So thought eh, I'll take a look. Dug through like 5 boxes and found a box with about 65 unused Maxell UR90 XLII tapes! Yeah I'll take those!

I don't really know much about quality among brands or models, but 65 blanks is a little hard to pass up. I also grabbed a bunch of recorded on BASF, TDK and more Maxells. All books on tape they copied themselves I guess. Not a single music cassette in probably over a thousand tapes. Crazy. All books on tape.

Should I have snagged any of those? Lol These pics are what I grabbed. 20180521_223454.jpg20180521_223634.jpg

I believe they say they are High Bias Cro2? Gotta look up what all that means... I'm tape ignorant.

What. The. Fark. Seriously, though... dang that's a fantastic score!

The UR90 tapes are the green ones, and they are Type I normal bias. For whatever reason, they put the XLII Type II Chromes in the UR90 boxes.

There were so many more that had been recorded on too, but I didn't think much of value. I kinda didn't want to have any ghosting if I decided to record a bunch of music. Maybe shoulda grabbed more huh?

I was hoping to find some reel tapes in there.

Sell the Maxell XLII on Ebay, you could make at least $200
Dang really? Are these pretty good for recording though? I'd probably use a few if so.

Maxell XLIIs are excellent tapes for recording and very sought after so that's a great score

With 65 of them, yeah I'd say $200+ is a good estimate.....Depends how many groups you break them up into

This JVC TD-W354 is middle class deck.
Its good for playback with auto reverse and pitch control functions.
For good recordings must search for 3 head deck with manual bias ajust.

You should have said **** it, grabbed a coal shovel and a truck, and took the whole haul.

Even the stuff already recorded over, if it was high quality TDK, etc. can be erased decently and re-recorded over.
When I go to St. Vincent De Paul, I take anything that's not nailed down. At $.25 for new in the box...and $.05-$.10 for already recorded, if it's a good brand that ****'s mine. It's not going to be around forever.

Or, as Daffy Duck says...

Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!...
