Hello all. I’m new here. Just signed up today. I grew up listening to hip hop from the late 70’s and 80’s and had a cheap boom box when I was a kid.
This past Saturday I was driving home from a beach vacation. Passing through a small town, I saw a yard sale that had some interesting old iron tools in the front yard so I stopped for a look. Went inside the house (contents also for sale) and there sat a large boom box on the floor. I admit I knew nothing at the time about what was desirable. Took the radio outside to the seller and asked what he wanted for it. He said, well, it doesn’t work, so how about $5. He’ll yeah, I’ll pay $5! I couldn’t get the money out fast enough.
Well, the radio is the JVC RC-M90. I took it home, cleaned it up as much as I could, opened it up and sprayed some air in it to clean it a little. Put it back together and it plays radio. It’s not loud so it has some volume issues. Cassette doesn’t work either. Opens and closes but won’t play. Still, I bought this “holy grail” for $5!
Now, I’m trying to find a place to possibly restore it.
