Hitachi TRK8190E Restoration Complete

I have now completed my 8190. Needed a complete deep clean, all new belts and some donor parts from another identical unit.

Really pleased how it turned out.

Hi Neiloliver

a great looking restoration.

You mention that you used some donor parts.
I am just doing a restoration on a TRK-8290 which is a very similar model.
One problem with mine is that the tape door window and tuner window are very badly clouded and yellowed and probably need replacing.
Just wondering if you have any spare donor parts that you are willing to sell?

My 8190 deck plays with a grinding noise. I think some of the contact wheels are making that noise or it has to do with gears in that drive.

I haven’t tried to power mine on yet.
Still in bits in the middle of a clean and waiting on some belts before I put it back together.

Huffers, did you find a door? You can’t replace the tuner dial acrylic as you have probabaly found out by now.

Just seen the other thread. You DID get the radio dial acrylic out. Well done! I never tied that, assuming the aluminium bezel would be destroyed in the process.

Don't suppose you fancy doing another one for a good price? I have a great looking model (and new set of belts) that needs some TLC. Tuner doesn't work (indicator doesn't move) and cassette wont fast forward or rewind... tapes also gets stuck/entangled when playing.
