I made a test run comparison vid just to see how it turns out. Turns out I'm not quite satisfied with it... It doesn't really say anything about the sound of these two boomboxes especially since audio was recorded with the mic of my cam. I'm posting ths anyway and add a few things in the post.

I recorded them one after the other but with the excact same settings on my cam and you can hear that the Hitachi is a little bit louder / more powerful :-O
Sound-quality-wise the Pioneer definitely tops the Hitachi

The Hitachi might sound louder because the mid-range is flat and the highs are cut on the Pioneer. Just a guess though.

What is the name of the song played?

:agree: .
Both comparo boxes - great sounding machines  . So tight bass indeed. And this 909 - believe me, is in really good shape and the full range is really good covered  . The Hitachi is top notch too. Both fascinating machines and not so common - thats put more point on top for me.
Thanks for the comparo dude.

I cut the highs a little to make the overall sound better.
The song playing is Hundreds - Happy Virus (Ryan Halifax Techhouse Mix)

And I want to add that I love the SK-909 - it's one of my favourites and I wouldn't trade it for ten TRK-9900s
Still the 9900 is a hard hitter and can almost keep up with the 909 - except for overall sound quality.

So the hiatachi was louder and you played with the graffix on the pioneer a little to give it a better sound than the hiatachi
So you manipulated the pioneer to win
Interesting
I guess it's a new test I shall give it a go me self
Thanks

Wtf :dunce:
I adjusted the sound of both boomboxes so that they sounded the best they can. I definitely did not manipulate the Pioneer to win as I turned the Hitachi's bass knob all the way up, messed with the treble too and turned on loudness. Despite its power the Hitachi just doesn't sound as great as the Pioneer no matter how you adjust the sound controls. Anyone who has heard the 909 can tell you that it sounds superb. The 9900 is very powerful but there are a lot of boomboxes that sound better.

Here is my opinion:

........................... Hitachi...................................Pioneer

Looks................6/10............................................10/10
Sound...............7/10 (cause it's a 3 piecer)... 9/10
Portability.........4/10 (3 piecer)............................7/10 (heavy!!!)
Quality...............7/10............................................. 10/10

Total..................24/40...........................................36/40
.............................. C .................................................A-

Just the way I look at it :angelic:

To me, the Hitachi looks the best :-P Because of the cool LEDs, and the nice looking knobs that look hi-quality.
The Pioneer, I dunno, it definitely looks unique and interesting, but I just don't like grocery-bag colored speakers. :-/ Just a silly hangup of mine

I think the Hitachi deserves a better portability rating than 4/10. It shouldn't automatically get a bad rating just because it's a three-piecer. The boxes are hooked up very well: four metal knobs per speaker box! The audio signal goes via the metal knobs which means no cables at the back for connecting the speakers to the main unit. Minus points are weight (13 kg) and the kind of bulky main unit but I'd say it still qualifies for 6/10.
Feature-wise the Hitachi is at least on par with the Pioneer. Maybe even better as it got more features - but no auto-reverse.
Build quality is great on both. The Pioneer got metal sliders which is awesome and you for fine tuning you pull out the tuning knob a little which is also awesome. The Hitachi is built just as well as the Pioneer only the knobs could be a little better.
Looks are of course debatable. I personally like the looks of the 909 a little more but that's just my opinion. My girlfriend saw a pic of the 909 and said it looked strange. When she saw it in person (without recognising it) she said it looked pretty cool

:agree: I'm not sure how it's less portable . Whats the difference between the portability of a one piece or three piece. If a three piece is well made its pretty portable .

IMO 3 piecers are made for the home and are also portable which does not mean they should be carried around...
Anyway - if I had two guys turning up with those boxes I would definitely say the Pioneer guy has more style.

And - let's face it - the GHETTOBLASTER is a portable box out of one piece with at least 1 speaker and a cassette deck.
The sad turth is if I saw that Hitachi at a flea for more than 20 euros, I would pass it without hestitation.

Seriously, Max, that would be your loss. It's a feautrepacked and powerful high quality unit.
Oh and you know the WX-1? Three-piecer...

Dude, I know. I am not saying the Hitachi is bad. I only say it is absolutely not my taste  .
It's like some people say the Dynasty Discolite sucks. I love mine although it really is a piece of crap  .
And yes, I know the WX-1. IT is one awesome boombox but seriously not something to carry around imo. I do have some 3 piecers in mind I love (PH492, KS101, SX1000,...) but all in all I prefer one piecers. Just my opinion. That does not mean I don't respect yours.

After all it would be really boring if we all had the same taste ;-)

Peace, dude :beer2: Let's not fight about this

Hey wait, I don't get it Max  :dunce:
Shouldn't portability for the Pioneer be 1/10 (instead of 7/10) precisely since you say: "heavy!!!"???

Either way, the Pioneer is lighter than the Hitachi by 7.29 Lbs! (3.31 Kg.)
I'd say the Pioneer has more portability, wouldn't you all?

Weights:
Pioneer SK-909L = 22 Lbs (9.97Kg.)
Hitachi TRK-9900E = 29.295 Lbs. (13.28Kg.) :hmmm:

LOVED your comparo btw, simply because of the "Str?njness" of the models you picked - Right on Zippy!!! :breakdance:

You're still talking to the dude carrying his 777 with him :-P . So yes, it is heavy....and it is a subjective rating I did.

It is not meant for anyone to take offense...there is no better or worse anyway - both boxes play in a different league
