Hitachi TRK-9230HC problem

The a/n boombox in my collection won't accept a tape. Perusal by my feeble eyes reveals the pinch roller won't disengage from the pin it pinches the tape against. Enquiry with a very experienced tech elicited that the outfit is probably stuck in play mode, due to a slipping belt. I CAN push the pinch roller down, but it pops back up as soon as I get my finger out. Does a slipping belt require replacement, or could it be due to some part in the transport being faulty? I'm legally blind, and can't fix this myself, so I have to take it in to a shop for repair. I'd like to be able to give them as much info as possible to shoot this trouble, as boombox repair is muchos expensive.
Thank you!

I'd agree with your tech that it's probably a slipping belt that's not allowing the deck to reset. Belts are cheap but you'll need a tech or a knowledgable friend to fit them for you.

Good luck,

James.... :-)

I would also check the pause mechanism as this will keep the head mechanism from staying in correct play position. 🤔
