Hello from newbie!

Today I got this oldtimer.. Hitachi TRK 8180 EM. I must say his age is almost or same as mine 1977/78! Old classic boombox, shiny and heavy. It is in rather good condition but not perfect. All functions accept tape are working without flaws. Hope this will solve problem : https://www.ebay.com/itm/HITACHI-TRK8180-TRK-8180-BOOMBOX-FULL-BELT-KIT-ABK010/283399702728
Some day now I will open it and blow f the dust and give it a mild soapy wash.

Ooh, nice! I have the same box. I never knew when it was built, but the service manual is dated June 1979.

Looks like mine has som yellowish UV damage to paint.. BTW writing from Slovenia EU
It is possible that the yellowish color is from years of nicotine. One thing to try is create a paste using baking soda and water. Add just enough water to make it the consistency of toothpaste.

Then, put some of the paste on something like a toothbrush and brush the surface. It might take a while, but it should start to become silver again.

I did the same thing when I started getting into collecting. I located my first Walkman and fired it up listening to my tapes.

It's always nice to dig out the radios that were original to you and that went with you everywhere you went.

TRK was today passed to buddy of mine for inside cleaning and switches detailing with KONTAKT 60 spray. Hope he will find tape problem.
