Hifi Studio speaker question

Hi there,
I just checked all of my Hifi Studio speakers and spotted some dots/holes at one pair of mid-range drivers.

Unlike my other speakers these are from the brown Hifi Studio 1 (not 1M) - might this just be the way those look? Also this one got some kind of plastic which is partially loose/torn - I haven't seen that on any other one, not even on the second one of this pair. Any idea?

Never seen that before. I bet it was done by some genius collector who thought it would improve the sound somehow.

Same with me..................never seen that, and I opened mine up to clean out

i have only seen these type holes in speakers that had tiny weights on the cone to balance the cone , not saying that's the case here but i can see no other reason for these holes, normally if those holes were meant for cooling purposes they would be at the bottom of the cone at the top of the voice coil.

Being that these have sealed back midrange speakers , the holes may be a way to vent compressed air from inside the speaker. You need these holes because trapped air inside the speaker will cause unwanted frequency resonance inside the sealed housing .
although these don't have much cone movement its still enough to compress air in a sealed chamber.

Most of the time midranges are vented in the back but some have holes filled with cotton to prevent back pressure from the larger drivers in the system.

I bet those are aftermarket. I've never seen any like that.
