I stumbled upon this site today while looking at boomboxes on the net. I don't currently have a collection but I've always had a thing for them.

When I was 5 my preschool teacher gave me a the 12" single of "Destination Earth 1999" by Newcleus and I still have it. I can't wait to get my first "real" box and rock that track through it :-D

I've been a DJ for the past 10+ years and have been known to play a little electro. I'm into

Mariel Ito
Dopplereffekt
Drexciya
Claro Intelecto
Dexter
Electronic Corporation
Nktar
Soul Oddity

and of course the classics.

Anyway it's nice to be here and I hope to learn alot.

Welcome aboard, pulpbeats! Enjoy your stay, but be careful. Once you've been "bitten" by the boombox bug, you'll discover there is no cure.

I was bitten for sure. A house mate I had around 5 years ago promised that he'd sell me his vintage Lasonic for $100 but then we parted ways and he GAVE it to another friend of mine. Not that I'm all hell bent on Lasonics but god damn. I lived with the thing for more than a year and then poof! it was gone and now its broke and painted(badly) on and unused.

I bought a Panasonic 4975 and was disappointed to find out it didn't have any aux inputs.

I'm just thirsty for a nice decent classic box that my friends and I can do a little laptop camp fire, beach or BBQ thing with. Don't get me wrong I'm a vinyl purist but sometimes logistics can hamper bringing the 1200's out. Especially when I'm the only one bringing out vinyl. Plus a few of my friends are the newer digital only types. I'm thinking a laptop/cdj's + decent box can satisfy 6 to 10 heads around a campfire for the night.

I know that what I get I'll just wind up fiending for the next step up and then the next and the next.... I don't have a problem with that.

I'm a huge Matsushita fan. I've been looking at the 5050, the 5080, the 5085 and the 5150 as my first real box.

I'm totally up for suggestions too but am pretty set in my ways.
