It's been kinda slow here today, so I thought I'd start up an off topic audio discussion.

Do any of you guys have an HD radio tuner in your stereo setups?
I've been toying with thought of picking one up after the holidays. I just want to hear any opinions either pro or con regarding HD radio tuners.

The Sony XDR-F1HD is the one I'm looking at, I've read a lot of good reviews and at $72-99 bones, it's a pretty good bang for the buck .

So what do you guys think? :hmmm:

Also, has anyone here piped in HD radio to a boombox?!?!? :-D

I bought a HD radio and it ended up being a huge waste of money and largely unused. You need to hook up a big antenna and I couldn't find hardly any stations. Finally, the difference wasn't all it was made out to be. Certainly, not worthy of the huge price difference.

My 2 cents: Keep your money.

Sup is spot on. A huge waste of money. What you could do instead id just connect a Sirius/XM unit and use it in lieu of land based radio. Or better yet still, hook your PC up and run HQ streaming audio.

:agree: HD radio is not the revolution they make it out to be, nothing like the improvement HDTV was to TV. The reception issues can be very annoying, stations don't fade in and out like standard radio it will either be on or off. There's no middle ground so it makes it very annoying when your station is turning on and off on you.

Interesting. Thanks for the input. There are a few Detroit stations in HD I'd like to get, but I guess I can stream them from my computer. Most stations that offer these signals offer them online too.
Oldy, I do stream a lot of music already using Slacker.com and LastFM.
Maybe I'll save my money and by a DAC or Tube headphone amp instead.

The only thing I use mine for is to charge my Ipod since it has a dock. I have the teac version.

I know the Zune HD is HD radio capable-these type of radio systems (HD) are basically only useful for US and Canadian users.

Much prefer DAB/DAB+ systems used in Australia and Europe.

I've always wanted an HD radio for the car. I have a long commute. There are a couple stations that I would love to be able to tune in, but my car is getting a bit old to think about upgrading.

My XM in my car is so darn clear-If that isn't HD who care?? It's damn nice sound & so clear!!
I believe it's just another gimmick!
HD TV now that's another story-that works!!
My brother has a Sony Bravo- 42" and cost about 2,000!! The picture is unbelieveable!!
Have a great one-GB. :-)
