Today I opened up the new Trident I just got, wanted to do some cleaning, check a few things....

It was so sweet to open up, you know that feeling when screws that have been in place since 1982 "Crack" for the first time when you twist the screw driver :smooch:

BTW, this box is SO well designed  There is a tiny "S" near every screw you need to remove on the back. Pull the front knobs and the face pulls away, then 2 plugs inside releases the whole font panel clean. The EQ remains on the face with all the sliders in place. The cassette decks each come out with no fuss and four screws...and there's the belts  :-D

But this is what I found to be interesting....

Although this radio "Appears" to have 8 inch drivers, it does not. I knew this and when you see it up close it it obvious...

BUT, inside the speaker actually mounts to a removable RING. You can unscrew the speaker from the ring and the ring from the cabinet face and then you can SCREW AN 8 INCH DRIVER IN PLACE :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Have you ever seen that before?

Easy access all the way? Selectable voltage switches hidden in there too? Easy to "biggee size" speaker swaps? Then, I could wap in some 12"ers in My Wheely :-D Wow! I wish all the other radios were that way. That's way cool.

That missing screw you're looking for is stuck on the left speaker magnet! :-D

You'll have to get to work fitting some 8" speakers now that you've opened your big mouth!

James... :-)

Some Lasonic 8's or CONION 126 8's would work just fine in there. Good luck!!

You can buy new Lasonic 8" with tweeters brand new from Lasonic for about $50 plus shipping, but I don't want to go with white speakers. I want to keep this beauty looking stock

Now if someone has a set of 126 speakers they want to add to the project :-P

...Or you could paint the inner ring red. That would look cool.

Are you sure the 8" holes will line up? They don't look equally spaced all around.

Like Miles said, If not, Mods will be made
