Damn! :sadno:
It's a shame, dudes young.
GangStar is what real hip hop was all about in the early 90's
Hope he pulls through.

I was never a fan of GangStarr, but I'm sorry to read that the guy is in a coma. :-/

Apparently the surgery was successful and he is still in a med induced coma, but breathing with aid of a machine. He'll return harder!

Met Guru once backstage at a Cypress Hill show. Dude tripped over my sneakers and he looked up at me and I presented a burning blunt I was smoking. Needless to say we smoked that blunt to the bone. (He wasnt lying when states he's 5 foot 8...I'm 6'4 myself..haha)

I found out about it before I came here... I was listening to "Check The Technique" a few days ago...

Damn... One of THE GREATEST lyricists to ever bless the microphone - gone!

It won't really hit me till the next time I play some Gang Starr...

Just to get a rep was my favorite jam from Gang Starr.
Sorry to hear he died so young.

I just listened to that song again and it took me somewhere it never had...
The original sample in the backround was written in 1970 by Jean-Jacques Perrey one of my favorite electronic music composers (born in 1929) and it's called "E.V.A."
Here's the link to a video of him playing it with a friend in 2006 live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddqfQtaFVrc&feature=related

Also, Jean-Jacques Perrey's music was used a lot by the Mexican writer/comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños (a.k.a. El Chavo del 8)... Chavo del 8 intro song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOu1BvuhtRw&feature=related

Gang Starr had a great elite taste, period. Rest in Peace.

Thank Guru's dj. DJ premier aka primo. He's great at his craft and digs deep in the crates. Good ear on figuring out the sample. I love figuring out old obscure joints when just randomly listening to things. A lot of times what's sampled is good on its own. I have a lot of lp's cause of this.

R.I.P. Guru. Big loss.
I love the Gang Starr and Jazzmatazz tunes.
One of my first records I bought was the "Hard To Earn" LP. Great times...

About the EVA sample. I know it under the name of Moog Indigo.
Its was also used for the remix of "Fed Up" by House Of Pain Ft. Guru.
Big Tunes.
