Give up the box

So I won an auction for a mint RX-A2 in original box with accessories from Japan. The price was pretty good but when I went to have it sent to me in Australia I was told that due to it's size it could only go Fedex and it would cost an insane $800 to get here. :'-(

So I guess I'll have to send the two halves in separately and have them throw the OG box away. Here's a small pic from the auction of what the box would have been like if you're interested. Looks like we won't get to see it in the flesh.

$800 JUST FOR SHIPPING? Maybe I'm seeing wrong.

It might be cheaper to just buy round-trip airfare and go get it yourself.
Now you have an excuse to see Japan! :w00t:

And that's with sea container? My import site sends them home in containers, you just have to wait a month sometimes before it hops in with all the rest of the exports. Possible to have it sent to someone who does sea mail?

That's what I usually do but they say there is a size restriction with surface mail :dunce: for some reason when a package gets over a certain size they can't put it on a boat (a double boxed M-90 is to big but an M-70 is ok). You haven't come across that? Sounds crazy to me. Shy of putting it on a pallet there doesn't seem to be much I can do.

I would've had them break down the box or at least cut out the sides that have the pictures and put the pieces inside the box that they are shipping... ;-)

Yes, have them send the unit in two separate packages and then fold up the box and send that too. That box is worth a lot, don't trash it!
