GF-999 speakers cutting in & out

So now Im tackling my second gf999 ... which has a few issues, first of which is the balance knob seems not to function? And the speakers themselves tend to cut in out from side to side depending on volume level. Any thoughts on as to what might be causing this? Thanks again guys

Definitely dirty potentiometers. It seems to be a thing with these models eventually. The volume pot on my GF-777 is especially prone to getting dirty, and the balance pot seems to never work 100% correctly.

Thanks for moving to new topic... sorry about that I will do so next time as well... ok il take a crack at cleaning those ( I'm assuming I need to access these from the back correct? ) Thanks man

You will need to pull the controls for a thorough cleaning, however you can pull the knobs and give them a spray of deoxit through the hole in the top of the potentiometers.

While that can work in some instances, the proper way - as you mentioned - is to pull the controls out for cleaning.

You will need to pull the controls for a thorough cleaning, however you can pull the knobs and give them a spray of deoxit through the hole in the top of the potentiometers.

The spray through the hole might work, but not the right way of doing things. It will over spray on the nearby components, will also flood the potentiometer area, and remove all the lubrication. Then the shaft will turn with no feel/resistance to it at all.
