Heyya all, :-D

Well, I had to do it twice to get it right but my first tear down & re-belt went smooth thanks to eddy with the link to a parts seller ^ FatDog for the RR,FF Rebelt PDF I found on another site I won't mention here..

Anyone with an expereienced eye is welcome to give me an honest opinion on the condition of the decks in my GF-777Z. Here's some photos to look at to see what you can tell me, if anything. I don't know what to expect so it's ahrd for me to judge the condition myself but they look new & unused, as if this was a warranty replacement box that never saw service:

I pulled out the guts of the GF & removed the tape transports form the plastic skeleton:

Is it just my wishful thinking or does this transprot look minty fresh as if it was never used?

Here's a shot of the internals with the flywheels removed. Again, I'm looking but I don't see any wear, dirt or other signs of use. Even the IDLER wheel rubbers are in great shape & didn't need replacing at all:

Here's another photo of the flywheels. Although they look oxidized they look perfect & the excess grease from the spindles are still fresh looking. I actually had to wipe off the excess & clean the pully wheels etc. of errant grease:

Here, the deck is claened, re-belted & ready to go. In this shot, you can see the ample grease applied, maybe at the factory, but no by me. In fact, it was a bit excessive & I had to wipe off the excess & clean the wheels, belts & idlers, a second time(not pictured) to get RR & FF to work right. Thanx again FatDog for the PDF as it was a must for me.

So guyy & gals, what do you think? Is this an un-used deck I'm looking at or what?

Thanx all,

Thanx, Triple-B :-D Yeah, well I told the seller I'm a member here & would give good feedback if the unit was as advertised & it worked right. He was a Chinese seller with 99.7% feedback so I took a chance & relied on him to realize he would get bad press here if I wasn't happy. I further squeezed him for a 100 dollar refund because the tuner was out of whack & the RR & FF was slipping but ALL 'PLAY' & 'RECORD' functions worked on both decks & LINE-IN is PERFECT!!! I paid a total of 525, taxes & delivery in. I fixed the belts & cleaned the grease from the wheels etc. & now all works perfect. When I re-belted it & saw the good condition & all working functions, I'm wondered if this is a virgin machine waiting for a warranty replacement? Next, I need to get the tuner aligned. I get a strong signal but the channels cancel each other out when centered on a station. I mean they have to be buying a warehouse lot & selling them indiividually. The trick is to get them to send you a really good unit & take extra care to pack it well. This guy used plenty of styrofoam & padding & even used rigid boards to protect from punctures & brutal treatment. thumbsup:

I really lucked out on my first grail. Thanx to the gods of D-CELL audio. YAY!!!! :breakdance:

Heyya,

Thanx for the kinds words I know the video was tedious but I wanted to show the decks going through the various functions. I hate Bonnie Raitt but cassettes are scarce now so it was that or bad Sinatra song-like ramblings. *PUKE*
