fuz has a point ( for once) :hmmm: :-D ;-)

as we are not in that particluar game --
we cant really 'appreciate' what some of these rare old items
truly mean to serious collectors

an original mercedes 300 SLR might auction for 1 1/2 million
--even with AM radio ONLY :-)

Boomus Fidelis
This is why I keep my collecting to boomboxes and classic vintage stereo gear. I may be crazy but I'm not rich and crazy, this exotic stuff is way out of my league.

Yes, you just never know what collectors will bite on. I sold a Risky Business promo 33RPM record press kit that had pre-recorded responses to an interview (so the local DJ can "interview" Tom Cruise etc). To some people it would just be an old record... but there were probably less than 50-100 ever made and it was only 1 of probably 3 that ever made it into collectors hands. I sold it 9 years ago for $1500 (I set the price, private party sale) and I probably shouldn't have except I was trying to raise money to buy a car. I paid $100 for it, so I came out alright, but I will never, ever, ever be able to replace it.

No doubt it's hens-teeth rare... and extremely desirable. Trouble is, every 9000 I see is more expensive than the last one I saw. Can't blame a seller for trying, I guess... tho I'm kind of weary of folks out to make a killing just 'cause they can. Why not start bidding low and just see what happens? If it's really worth seven K's, it'll get there.

IMHO selling it was the right thing to do in your case. It's not like you could play that record and dance to it.... Good for you to find that buyer and get that value for it.

If you an opportunity to replace it for $1500, would you?
