How come the Nat-pan version of this box has only the one meter and no balance control? I still would but hadn't realised that it's so stripped out compared to the Tensai as seen in this thread. ;-)

And that cost less than 1/100 as much!

I would never bid so high on this, but..........as I know, this is one of the rarest version of the NP 5410.
Since 2007, when i started with the bb researching and collecting till today, this version (DB) is the only second one I've seen on the net. :jawdrop:

The radio bands and the cover of the big speaker.

Most common version is National Panasonic RF-5410 LBS (FM/LW/MW/SW1/SW2 bands)

Slightly less common is National Panasonic R-5410 B (MW/SW1/SW2/SW3 bands) no FM
NP R-5410B 01.jpg
Rare is National Panasonic RF-5410 B/BA (FM/MW/Marine/SW1/SW2 bands)

Ultra rare is National Panasonic RF-5410 DB (FM/MW/Marine/SW1/SW2 bands)
It seems that there is no any visual differences between DB and B/BA version. I'm not sure but i think that DB version is produced only for Australian market. However, it is rare.

btw, just noticed on the actual listing that the front knobs is not original.

Ok, on the "B" version, you say no FM but in the picture, I can see 80, 90, 100 on the scale. That must be FM right?

I definitely have one of the top versions. I also have one of the lower models but unsure which..... definitely has FM and has gold(ish) metal grill. I never paid attention that there was a suffix and mine is boxed away. I know it's pretty rare because I haven't really seen another one yet. I can say for sure that the sound is tremendous, and the tuner is ultra good.

After looking at the history of the two high bidders, I think this seller is going to have trouble collecting
They both look legit to me but not sure the top bidder will be very happy with the second bidder for transforming his "would-be" $84 bid into a $3950 bid. As you all know, I've sold many $1000+ boomboxes and invariably every time, someone will always suggests or throw up a comment such as "good luck collecting." Knock on wood however, buyer's always came through thus far.

In this particular case, looks like the top bidder has retracted bids before. Once in 30 days, twice in the past 6 months so it's fair to say "maybe" he might retract. I do think a 2000+ feedback eBayer probably knows what he is doing however. As Devo-toni says, this model is not a very common one and is very attractive with performance to match, so it might get something decent. Still, I'm suprised how high it currently is at especially considering the amount of corrossion on the top panel -- mine would look almost new in comparison to this one. For sure, there are some high rollers in AU. Several record breaking prices on boomboxes originated in AU.

The Antipodean market having its own version makes sense as their marine band isn't the 25m band which the North Atlantic trawler band - as found on E/L/B sets - (depending on brand) is.
I thought I saw FM-related numbers on that one too, it occurred to me that if the blind isn't all wound onto the upper spool, then there might be 102 through 108 still out of sight on the lower spool, if 100MHz is the upper limit then that would make it a UK market version.

As an aside, if removing the dial screen to clean it, note that it's only held into the spools in the same way as a 120 film, it doesn't have the handy sprockets that you find on 35mm so be prepared to fight the effing thing or live with a little print through if you want to maintain correct calibration!

The "B" version - second pic - is without FM band. Therefore the primary mark is without letter "F", the model is R-5410 and it has only four bands - MW/SW1/SW2/SW3. The numbers 80, 90, 100 on the scale they are for MW bands x 10kHz

In fact, it is my r-5410 :-)
Also, you're right about the tuner, he catches stations on all bands like no other of my boomboxes
