It's really bitter sweet for selling on ebay. My JVC M71 sold on ebay for $600 plus shipping. Shipping was about $150 to Australia.

So totals:
$5 listing fee with $450 reserve
$29 for paypal fees deducted from my final selling price
$58 final selling price fee through ebay! WTF :annoyed:

So it costs me 100 mother-F'n dollars to sell my boombox on ebay......? I just can't believe what they get away with these days for fees. It feels like I just got robbed.

:sadno:

I would rather of sold the boombox here to a member for $450 then to give ebay/paypal any money at all.

I'm so irritated right now :annoyed:

Unfortunately ebay is a necessary evil. It allows us to shop and sell items around the world and get prices we normally would not get for the sale of a boombox. I don't sell much on ebay so I am looking at it more from a buyers perspective. I do a ton of ebay shopping because it allows me to avoid shopping malls which I hate because there prices are extremely high compared to ebay and amazon. So although I feel your pain looks like you still cleared $500 which is very good for an M70... :-D...besides, without ebay the value of these boomboxes would be significantly lower...so I guess we are stuck with ebay whether we like them or not.

LOL, Melly - problem is I had $500 into the boombox! :dunce:

I agree though that for BUYING it is a very nice way to get things. I also hate malls and crap.

...Ouch, I didn't realize you had that much into it. I paid that amount for 3 M70's and 1 M71 combined, and all working 100%... :-O ...well at least you broke even... :-/

I'm happy I broke even - and that was the reason why I sold it because I was a little sick over the original deal I had with the two M71s I got.

My original plan was to buy both, keep one, and sell the other for as much as I got both. That would give me a FREEBIE.

BUUUUUT, of course the seller on craigslist lied about the condition and really sold me 2 parts boxes  .

Live and learn, this one will definetly go down in history for me  .

And I agree with how many other boomboxes combined you can get for $500  . My entire collection wasn't even purchase for 2x that  :-P  ;-)

melly is right about all this -
sellers just have to hope that their sale price reaches high enough to net out $$ well --
after all these high fees

:agree: I've always said (about Taxes), "The Tax Man is a Pimp" (you can figure out who We all are). With PayPal, it seems there's a new Pimp in town.

Like all businesses they are charging what the market will bear, the goal is to get as much money as they can. As long as the listings and members remain steady or increase they will continue to increase fees. This is a double edged sword though since without eBay it's doubtful we would be selling our boxes at anywhere near the prices we currently get.
