It was a GF-9696Z, not a GF-9797F. I have fixed it for you. ;-)

Yeah, those last 15 minutes of bids were a doozy.

I wanted to buy this one. I am not a collector, just wanted to get a piece of nostalgia. I used to own GF777 in 1980s but it is so big it would not fit anywhere in our house without some special arrangements. So I thought something smaller would work better for me. When i first saw this 9696 the bid was at $3xx. I was not watching any ebay actions lately so I did not know what to expect. I thought it might go up to $600. Today I placed a bid at 5xx and then the madness started. I was ready to go higher but when the price went above 1000 I started "questioning myself". The problem was I never saw this particular model and not being a collector I really did not know if this price made any sense. I stopped at $1300 and, obviously, didnot win  I am not sure if this is a bad thing though. 9696 seems to be a nice item but maybe not $1500 nice. If I understand ebay info correctly the person who won the auction already bought more than 1000 items from ebay which indicates that s/he is probably doing it for profit.

I can guarantee the person who won the auction isn't planning to re-sell it. There is no way he would profit on it, after spending that much money on it.

You can easily buy a 9696 for about $400-500 without the box. I personally wouldn't pay extra for the original box. It's funny to me that these auctions always say "new in box", but I don't believe it. I know from personal experience that many people keep the boxes for their electronics in their closet or basement for years, in case they need to move and pack up the radio. Therefore, the existance of the orginal box, manuals, and packing materials doesn't prove that the radio was never used. It only proves that someone never disposed of that stuff. After all, if you have a decent-sized house with room to store that stuff, why would you throw it out?

Well worth the $$ for new  If only I had that much cash just laying around :-O

I was all up for it....below 1K.... then gave up.. ..

For 7 years I saved the new box in a plastic cover..... it hurts..:-( I lost it in 1987...

Now listening to this..

As much as I want an M90 for my collection, I would rather pay $1500 for a new Sharp GF9696 in box then a used beat up M90 with non working deck

Totally agree with that statement!! I'd honestly rather have the Japanese GF-508SB version tho...

All silver is nice but the black one looks better, in my opinion.

So VERY true in most cases!! But... it is also VERY possible for a "new in box" box to exist - they do pop up from time to time.

if thats new how come the power cord looks well used :hmmm:

Important thing is that the Boombox is New... If not, then buyer got a raw deal ;-) If power cord is a used one for whatever reason, that's not that important, especially when you can purchase new ones :-D At least in my book

Ok okay....is that a strap included? But there's not link points on the unit???
And those stickers really came with brand new 9696's? I've seen 'em stuck on 9696's in the past and didn't know what that was all about... i guess mystery solved.
