Well...at least it'll slow the arson down...but as bad as the situation is in Detroit, I've heard people say the arson is actually a favor to keep drug dealers from using the homes as hideouts. Also, I've heard most of the homes ave been stripped anyway meaning it would take an exorbitant amount of work to make them habitable again. :-/

Detroit certainly has more than its share of abandoned homes. They often become drug houses or places for squatters to stay. Apparently, there just isn't enough money in the city treasury to tear them all down, much less have them rebuilt. Many are owned by absentee landlords who owe back taxes and can't be located.

From what I've heard, the "Ice House Project" is one architect's artistic (?) attempt to draw attention to Detroit's housing problem. Eventually, this house will be torn down and the property will be refurbished. Here's the blog explaining it all... with pictures...

Loom Breaker Shaker, if you ever get to a point where Detroit is just far gone, Tennessee would be a good home for you. ;-)

Can I watch Nissans being built?
Is Ernest Tubb's record shop still in Nashville?

If so, I'll give it some serious thought. :-D

Yes and yes.

The tour at the Nissan plant is really cool! I've been there twice. The first time was right after they opened in 1983 on a school field trip. The second time was last year with my daughter's school trip.
