Deck 2 likes to let my tapes unspool

Hey guys - I was looking through the threads to see what I thought woud be a common problems, but any advice on deck 2 of my GF 777 z letting my tape spool out? So far, I've caught it soon enough so that my tapes have not been destroyed, but wanted to know what causes this and what the fix is... And note, I am NOT In the least bit repair savvy (afraid I would destroy this beauty...) so I will probably have to take it somewhere. But in the meantime, deck 1 is just fine - in fact, rocking some 1983 "Al-Naayfish" as I type this! (head nod...)

Your take up Reel is not turning. I believe the cause usually is either bad belts plus there is a rubber tire that get dry and slippery and needs to be cleaned real good with alcohol.

Yeah, definitely check and clean the idler tires behind the flywheels. Might as well put new belts in at the same time.

Put it on play without a tape
and grab the takup wheel
see if it has a good smooth pull on it.

This is a good check to do
before puting a tape in
