Conion C100F tape tray lock pin fix

Hi all. Please delete this if this has already been done. But i wanted to share my fix for the lower tape draw lock pin.
Like most, the plastic locking pin was broken and missing on my tray.

I started by drilling a 2mm hole where the pin was located.


I then i chose to use a central locking rod as the missing pin as it fits perfectly in the locking guide mechanism


I then, using a power file (or a bench grinder) tapered the rod down to 2mm so that it would fit into the drilled hole.
I cut it to about 21mm long and filed the head smooth so that it wouldnt cut into the plastic guide as it moved around.


Inserted and lubricated the guide with some silicon lubricant.




I didn't glue or set the pin into the tray. The guide channel holds it perfectly in place

(1) is that rod from a car door?

(2) it’s probably better to cut that pin down with a step instead of taper. It’s because the taper acts like a wedge which could eventually split the plastic hole. Even better would be to thread the rod end so it could be spun into the hole.

Also, the video helped me install my spring correctly. I didn't have a drawer on mine until recently and I was wondering why the drawer wasnt popping out nicely. I had the spring in wrong. Very helpful.

Hey mate.
Yup it's from a car door central (power) locking kit.
I also thought about doing what you noted but there isnt enough downward force on the guide to split the plastic and the bottom of the pin in resting on the bottom of the 2mm drilled out section. I don't have a tap and die set that goes down that small so I just tried it out like so and seems to work fine.

Thanks mate. In the process of a full tear down and cleanup/rebuild.. I'm hoping the weather holds up this long weekend so I can do my high fill and color on the body of the conion....
